Gostkowski kicks in game winning field goal in win over Ravens
There's an air of invincibility and inevitability about the New England Patriots.

Invincible because since last December, they haven't lost. Inevitable because of the feeling they will find a way -- something they did in their toughest test this season, edging the Baltimore Ravens 34-31 on Stephen Gostkowski's 32-yard field goal with 1 second remaining.

"You're one kick away from being Public Enemy No. 1," Gostkowski said. "You're always one kick away from trending on Twitter as the No. 1 loser in America.

"But it's fun being on a good team. It's kind of like being on a baseball team where everybody's got a hit, and you can't wait to get up there and get a hit, too."

The Ravens, who seemed to have New England's number, were poised to knock off the Patriots (9-0) with Lamar Jackson tying the game with three minutes left in the fourth quarter. Jackson had found Hayden Hurst on a 4th-and-one play action play with Bentley whiffing on the pass deflection as Hurst found the endzone.

After Justin Tucker's extra point, Tom Brady drove the Patriots 59 yards, converting a third-and-four on the series. Brady had back-to-back gains of eleven yards to Julian Edelman to get new England on the 31-yard line where Baltimore started calling timeout. The Ravens were then unable to stop New England's running attack from gaining two more first downs, essentially killing the clock.

Gostkowski sent his winning kick soaring through the uprights.

In a game between long time rivals, it was a few new faces that made splashes. Willie Snead had five catches for 44 yards and a 96-yard run on a lateral pass for the Ravens. Jackson, in his first game against New England, went 22 of 25 for 273 yards and 62 yards on the ground. Mark Ingram also knocked in two touchdowns with 62 yards rushins as well.

A literal newcomer for the Patriots was tight end Jonnu Smith who led the team with seven catches for 102 yards. Smith was recently acquired in a trade from the Titans and didn't take long to make his impact despite not starting the game.

That must have been extremely intense to play. Way to hang on for the victory. My guy Joshua needs to get in that end zone though.

Bye Week Report: Undefeated no longer speculation, reality for New England
DynastySports.com

The New England Patriots are 9-0. They are already on the other side of another undefeated season for the storied franchise. There were a few bumps along the way -- exclusively off-the-field with Antonio Brown -- but the team that many picked to potentially go undefeated just might do it.

Team MVP

It has to be Tom Brady, who might win the league MVP once the season is over and done with. Brady is averaging career highs in yards per game, yards per attempt, completion percentage and is less than half a point away from his 2007 mark in terms of passer rating. He's also currently on pace for 49 touchdowns which will also just narrowly miss his 2007 record of fifty touchdowns.

Brady's been beaten up a few times this season with 37 sacks with both tackles Marcus Cannon and Isaiah Wynn having tough games this year. The loss of Antonio Brown doesn't help as the team's receivers, outside of Julian Edelman, are more deep threats that need time to get open in terms of Phillip Dorsett, Cameron Meredith and Jakobi Meyers.

Best Unit

Don't let the 21st ranking in terms of passing defense fool you, New England's secondary is the back bone of their top ranked scoring defense. New England is also first in interceptions and sacks, a byproduct of a secondary that is led by Stephon Gilmore. Gilmore's counting stats don't jump off the board with nine deflections, one interception and fifty tackles but ask someone like Odell Beckham who was held catch-less when covered by Gilmore just how good the all-pro corner has been this season.

Surprise Player

When New England signed Jamie Collins back in the off-season, they were hoping to get a rotational piece at linebacker. They got, instead, a legitimate defensive player of the year candidate. Collins is third on the team with 53 tackles, fourth in sacks with three and leads the team with five interceptions. Collins is always around the football which is why only fellow linebacker Dont'a Hightower has played more snaps.

Kyle Van Noy is healthy again and after a productive year last season that was rewarded with an extension, it will be interesting to see if Collins is able to keep Van Noy off the field or will Bill Belichick find a way to play all three linebackers in this era of spread offenses.

Most Disappointing Player

There was always going to be a drop off after Rob Gronkowski decided to retire but just eleven catches and 93 yards from off-season addition Benjamin Watson. Even at 38, New England expected more from Watson who caught 35 passes last season and 61 in 2017. His lack of production despite a high volume of snaps leads directly into the breakout player for the second half of 2019....

Breakout Player

It's only been one game but Jonnu Smith reminded a lot of Patriots fans -- and players behind closed doors -- of former tight end Aaron Hernandez. Smith often looks like a receiver running routes and a running back when carrying the football. With not a lot of star talent at the tight end position coming out of the draft, New England figures to have their tight end of the future in Smith. New England paid two draft picks for him and a promising player in Ryan Izzo.

Another player to watch for is Phillip Dorsett. If Smith hadn't been traded for in the last ten days, Dorsett would have gotten this nod. His snaps are increasing post Antonio Brown and Cameron Meredith just hasn't been effective, just one catch in 21 snaps. Dorsett's role should only increase as the season gets deeper and Brady starts to focus in on guys that he trust.

Biggest Weakness

Despite a stout secondary and lofty numbers in the sack department, New England's lack of a pure pass rush is going to be a problem. Yes, they lead the league in sacks but pressure this season has had to be manufactured. Late in the game against Baltimore, New England had to keep bringing the house against Jackson who was then able to pick them off with one-on-one coverage on the back end. Against the likes of Kansas City, New England will need to be able to bring pressure with four and so far this season, they haven't been able to do so.

New England Patriots at Philadelphia Eagles Preview
DynastySports.com

Back in 2015, the New England Patriots were in pursuit of another undefeated season when they stumbled against the Denver Broncos in week 12. The next week, they lost to a 4-7 Philadelphia team and the season got off the rails with New England eventually losing in the AFC Championship game to Denver.

It might have taken a few seasons but it's payback time.

Philadelphia (4-5) is on the brinks of losing its season as one-loss Dallas is running away with the NFC East division. Philadelphia is two games out of the wild card spot and given the bevy of teams in front of them, it will take an almost perfect end to the season for them to make the playoffs and they'll need to do it without quarterback Carson Wentz or center Jason Kelce.

Wentz' season was once again cut short with an injury, this time due to a torn tricep and Nick Foles isn't around to save the season. Instead, it's Josh McCown whose been solid with eight touchdowns and four interceptions with a 72 percent completion percentage. However, the offense just isn't as explosive with receivers like DeSean Jackson averaging eight yards per catch.

It will be interesting to see how New England's secondary matches up with Philadelphia's trio at receiver of Jackson, Alshon Jeffery and Nelson Agholor along with tight end Zach Ertz.
