Patriots trade for Titans' TE Smith ahead of trade deadline
NFL.com

While the names of Jalen Ramsey and Minkah Fitzpatrick floated around in trade discussions, New England finally did pull a trigger and it's a name many fans might not recognize.

The Patriots traded a 2020 4th round pick, a 2020 7th round pick and tight end Ryan Izzo to the Tennessee Titans for tight end Jonnu Smith.

Smith, 24, was a third-round pick by the Titans in 2017. Throughout the draft process, Smith drew numerous comparisons to the Titans' tight end Delanie Walker. During his second season, he was named the top tight end on the depth chart after Walker suffered a dislocated ankle during the season-opening loss to the Miami Dolphins. Smith initially struggled filling Walker's shoes but he caught his first touchdown of the season on a shovel pass from Mariota against the Dallas Cowboys in a 28-14 Week 9 victory. In the next game against the New England Patriots, Smith caught four passes for 45 yards and a touchdown in the 34-10 victory. During Week 12, Smith caught a 61-yard touchdown pass as the Titans lost to the Houston Texans by a score of 34-17. However, during a 30-9 victory against the Jacksonville Jaguars in Week 14, he suffered a season-ending MCL injury. Smith finished the 2018 season with 20 receptions for 258 yards and three touchdowns.

Smith could be a potential long term replacement for the retired Rob Gronkowski at tight end. Benjamin Watson is likely playing his last season in the league and even more-so, had just nine catches on the season. Ryan Izzo was the team's leading tight end in terms of catches with 13 catches for 144 yards.

Such a big dynamic change where the tight end is essentially an extra blocker or not on the field. Interesting trade.

New England Patriots at Baltimore Ravens Preview
DynastySports.com

Despite an 8-0 record, many have felt that the New England Patriots haven't been properly tested. They passed their first real one last week with a 20-14 win over the Cleveland Browns, shutting down Odell Beckham in the process. Next up in New England's tough slate of games is a visit to Baltimore, in primetime, against a team that is fighting for its playoff life.

The Ravens are in arguably the tightest division in football with just two games separating first place Cleveland and last place Pittsburgh. The division will likely be won with nine or ten games making this game an incredibly important game for Baltimore. They've been inconsistent with wins over the likes of Kansas City, Pittsburgh and Seattle but then have head scratching losses to Cincinnati and Arizona.

Lamar Jackson has quieted critics with his 71 percent completion percentage, averaging 9.2 yards per attempt along with sixteen touchdowns and three interceptions with only 32 carries on the season, turning himself into the pocket passer many doubt he could be. His passing numbers rivals Brady outside of touchdowns where Brady leads the league with 27, five more than Patrick Mahomes.

Another stat Brady leads the league in is times sacked with 34 on the season. Baltimore will need to get after Brady, something they haven't done to opposing quarterbacks all season long as only one team has less sacks on the year, the hope-less Miami Dolphins. Baltimore will need to find a way to generate a pass rush with top pass rushers Pernell McPhee and Matthew Jundon each having just a sack to their name. Despite the lack of pass rush, Baltimore is ranked 4th in total defense and sixth in pass defense.

Baltimore will be without receiver Marquise Brown who is sidelined with a shoulder tear. Brown has 26 catches for 317 yards and a touchdown in his rookie year.
