Patriots beat the Panthers 29-29 to earn record 7th Super Bowl win
As Sony Michel sprinted into the endzone, Tom Brady simply lifted his two arms up in the air before letting them fall to his helmet as he stood there.

Three different decades, seven championships. Greatness personified. Dynasty.

Brady was money when it counted and New England's defense showed up and showed out when it was needed the most as New England won its record seventh Super Bowl over the Carolina Panthers on Sunday.

Carolina jumped out to a 14-3 lead with 10:07 left in the second quarter thanks to a power running game that New England's front seemed to simply have no answer for. The game seemed ripped for the taking by Carolina as New England went three-and-out following Cam Newton's touchdown scramble but the Panthers failed to get a first drive as well.

Brady orchestrated a 13 play drive, converting a third down and then a fourth-down at the Carolina 45 before finding Julian Edelman for the score with two minutes left in the half.

The Panthers were driving on the ensuing possession thanks to scrambles of 15 and 23 yards by Newton but on 3rd and two, Newton was sacked by Kyle Van Noy to force Carolina to kick a 53-yard field goal which was missed.

With 44 second left, Brady found Josh Gordon for gains of 13 and 25 yards in Gordon's first ever Super Bowl appearance. Stephen Gostkowski kicked in the 36-yarder to make it 14-13 at the half.

The Patriots struck again to open the second half and take the lead. A failed two-point conversion followed by a field goal gave them the 22-14 lead entering the fourth as New England was able to shutout the Carolina offense.

And then came Brady's first mistake as New England had the ball early in the fourth quarter with a chance to put the game away. He was intercepted by Luke Kuechly and seven plays later, Newton found Brandon Zylstra for a 23-yard touchdown. Carolina went for two to tie the game but Newton was sacked by Van Noy once again.

New England punted on the next drive but Carolina failed to capitalize as Dawson missed a 51-yard field goal with 5:50 left in the game. New England would kick the clock, running nine straight runs -- including a 4th-and-2 from the Carolina 38 -- before Michel sprinted into the endzone.

The Patriots beat the Rams, then representing St. Louis, to begin their dynastic run in the 2002 game. They also have beaten Carolina and Philadelphia (2004 and `05, the last repeater); the Seahawks in 2015; and the Falcons in 2017 in the only overtime in Super Bowl history.

Van Noy's three sacks -- excluding his stop on the two-point conversion -- earned him the Super Bowl MVP honor.

Can New England keep -- and build -- their team to a three-peat?
DynastySports.com

No NFL team has ever won three straight Super Bowls and the only team to win back-to-back Super Bowls since 1999? The New England Patriots who have now done it twice. They now look forward to doing something that has never been done.

New England was a complete team in 2019, perhaps the most balanced during the dynasty's run of seven Super Bowls. New England's offense was the top scoring offense and the defense was the top scoring defense and led the league in sacks and interceptions.

While the offensive output was expected with Tom Brady at quarterback, the defensive performance was not. Linebackers Jamie Collins and Kyle Van Noy were a big part of that with Van Noy earning Super Bowl MVP honors while Collins was an all-pro. Van Noy is 29 while Collins is 30, typically around the age that Bill Belichick and the Patriots cut ties with their aging veterans. Add in team captain Elandon Roberts and you could potentially have a brand new linebacking corps.

No defensive player will be a bigger offseason priority than safety Devin McCourty, who led the team in tackles. McCourty is a captain and the leader of the defense for the better part of the last decade. With brother Jason McCourty signed through 2020, New England figures to be in the driver seat to retain McCourty's services this off-season.

The offseason, however, begins and ends with Brady's new contract. If last summer was any indication, Brady isn't in a giving mood and wants to be paid market value for his talent and what he brings to the team. Long are the days of hometown discounts and taking paycuts. This comes at an inopportune time for New England with receivers Josh Gordon, Phillip Dorsett II and Cameron Meredith all due for a re-up. Add in guard Joe Thuney and the offense could potentially lose out on four contributors on offense along with tight end Benjamin Watson, who announced his retirement via social media.

Will Brady perhaps take less money in order to keep a guy like Gordon around or does New England trust that N'Keal Harry can continue his development and become New England's true top outside receiver?

Brady, Patriots agree to $25.7 million, 1-year extension
DynastySports.com

Tom Brady is back, at least for one more season.

The New England Patriots and their franchise quarterback agreed to a one year, $25.7 million extension that will keep the Super Bowl winning quarterback in Foxborough. There were some speculations that Brady will join the likes of tight end Greg Olsen, former teammate CB Aqib Talib, tight end Jason Witten and future Hall of Famers Adrian Peterson, Larry Fitzgerald and Frank Gore in retirement but that is not the case.

Brady won the MVP last season en route to winning his seventh Super Bowl.

Van Noy, Collins to test free agency
DynastySports.com

New England, for the moment, will have some new men manning the middle of their defense.

Linebackers Kyle Van Noy and Jamie Collins are both expected to test free agency. Van Noy, who was Super Bowl LIV MVP, was presented with an offer last Thursday but turned it down. It is reported that the offer was in the three year, $25 million range.

Van Noy had 129 tackles and three sacks in 2018 but saw his tackle numbers dip to 50 this season but his role as a pass rusher increased with him recording eight in the regular season and three in the Super Bowl.

There is a chance that New England brings them back during free agency but at the moment, they are expected to be free agents.

Patriots release DE Bennett
DynastySports.com

The New England Patriots have released defensive end Michael Bennett.

The team signed him last off-season to a two-year deal and he was set to make $10.3 million this season. Bennett recorded 8.5 sacks this season and was moved all over the defense due to his ability to be both an inside rusher and an edge rusher.

Bennett's move is most likely due to cap reasons as releasing him frees up $8.25 million while New England will also need to carry $2 million in dead cap money.

New England is also reported to be in contract negotiations with safety Duron Harmon as they try to restructure his deal with him set to make $5.5 million in 2020.

Patriots extend guard Thuney while key free agents head to open market
DynastySports.com

With free agency set to start at midnight, the New England Patriots managed to sign guard Joe Thuney to a 3 year, $36.8 million extension. Paired with guard Shaq Mason who recently signed a six year, $47 million extension, New England has one of the highest paid interior offensive lines and one of the best ones.

Thuney's extension, while pricey, comes as welcomed news. New England failed to secure an extension with safety Devin McCourty and are apparently "not interested" in extending receivers Josh Gordon and Cameron Meredith. Phillip Dorsett II is also set to be a free agent although there is still interest from both sides to bring Dorsett back.

New England has $36.91 million available and are expected to be interested in a few key free agents such as tight ends Hunter Henry and Eric Ebron while defensive tackle Chris Jones might get an offer from New England as well.
