MONARCHS NEWS WIRE

NEW DIGGS

"We're not just sitting around, we're being aggressive." Monarchs owner Ronald Crump said before breaking the news of a blockbuster trade that brought Stefon Diggs over from the Vikings. "Nobody knows how to build a football team better than me. Trust me. There have been studies."

Diggs made it clear that he wanted to be traded after struggling to mesh first with Kirk Cousins as well as Adam Thielen and members of the coaching staff.

Diggs, 27, comes to the Monarchs in exchange for Jakeem Grant, a 2022 1st round pick and a 2023 2nd round pick. Minnesota added a 7th round pick in 2023.

Diggs should immediately improve the Monarchs offense. He and Philip Rivers have already expressed excitement at the thought of playing together.

Diggs joins Devante Parker, Josh Gordon and John Ross, giving the Monarchs a diverse and talented receiving group.

Grant was disappointed but says he looks forward to a more stable situation. He is expected to the the #2 or #3 receiver in Minnesota.

ADAMS BOMB

Less than 24 hours after completing a trade for receiver Stefon Diggs Monarchs owner and GM Ronald Crump was at it again, dealing a pair of draft picks and safety Jason Irving to the Jets for Jamal Adams.

Adams famously called out Jets head coach Adam Gase and requested to be traded.

"Some very fine people on both sides." Crump said when asked about adding possible volatility in Diggs and Adams to a locker room. "Nobody knows more about managing a locker room and locker room talk than me." Crump added.

The Monarchs sent a lot back to the Jets, Irving, a 2023 1st rounder and a 2022 2nd, so they're hopeful on a big return.

Irving, a promising player, was openly angry about the trade.

"Just glad to play them twice a year, gonna make Crump look like a fool."

The addition of Adams makes it so Minkah Fitzpatrick can transition to more of a free safety role, where he fits better.

These two big trades would lead one to believe that Crump feels like he has a team that can compete now, trying to maximize talent around veteran QB Philip Rivers, who may only have a year or two left in him.

2022 TEAM PREVIEW
QUARTERBACKS

Image
After the disaster of a season Josh Rosen had in 2021 and a downright poor QB draft class it's no surprise to see an all new QB group for the Monarchs.

Philip Rivers was brought in on a one year deal with an option for a second and the team filled in behind him by trading for Tyree Jackson and signing UDFA Chandler McCain.

Rivers is surrounded by talent so as long as he can distribute the ball and not commit many brutal turnovers he should have a much better season than Rosen did last year.

Jackson is a potential successor if he can progress, two years behind Rivers would be very beneficial.

McCain looks to have the tools to be a solid long term backup.

2022 TEAM PREVIEW
RUNNINGBACKS

Image
Jordan Howard battled injuries last season and finished with 511 yards and two touchdowns. The Monarchs are hoping for more from him this season. They also used a late first round pick on Nick Gilchrist, an all-purpose back who led Washington in rushing and receiving yards last season.

De'Anthony Thomas was used in a number of ways last season and took the most snaps at RB after Howard went down. He should see a reduced role in the backfield. Kalen Ballage averaged over six yards per carry in limited touches and may be a bigger part of the offense. Patrick Laird and Myles Gaskin round out the position.

At fullback the Monarchs hope to get a contribution from Chandler Cox, who was injured most of last season. Taysom Hill played QB, RB, FB, WR and TE last season and should do the same this season.
