Was honestly expecting a lot worse. That defense definitely baptized you but lots to build on.

had success throwing it early on and picks aside, we were able to get what we wanted most times but once we got in the redzone, got tougher.

Carter urges fans to arrive early, wear white in program's first ever home game
Cooper Byrd -- Long Beach Sentinel

Long Beach State head coach Khari Carter took to social media to encourage students and fans to come support the Long Beach State 49ers in their first ever home game as they host the Army Black Knights.

Carter also told fans to wear white and informed that tickets will be free for all students and alumni.

While the 49ers of today will be trying to win the program's first ever game, Long Beach State will also be hosting a few potential future 49ers.

Three-star quarterback Ryan Mason out of Santee, California will be on campus. Mason is the fourteenth ranked quarterback in the class and currently is leaning towards Long Beach over San Jose State and San Diego State. The 49ers are also considered the favorites to land La Habra product John Johnson, the 25th-ranked quarterback in this recruiting cycle.

On campus and at the game will also be running back Eddie Jackson, a three-star recruit out of Huntington Beach that could be a potential day one contributor if Long Beach can hang on to him. Jackson has interests from Florida State, Texas and North Carolina but has yet to receive an offer. A rising prospect, it would behoove Long Beach to land a commitment before his rankings continue to increase.

Other visiting prospects include T Billy Wilson (2-star), C Calvin Lawrence (1-star JUCO), T David Martinez (2-star) and G Kyle Robinson (2-star JUCO).

Earlier in the week, plans were finalized to build a football stadium on campus that is expected to seat 30,000 to 35,000 fans once completed. The goal -- it's an aggressive one -- is for the stadium to be built in time for next season although 2021 is a more likely target date.

The game will be at Veterans Memorial Stadium.

LBSU earns first slew of commitments as Jackson commits to 49ers
Pablo Martinez -- Black and Gold, SB Nation Affiliate

When Long Beach State opted to go with a first-time head coach in Khari Carter, it was because of Carter's recruiting prowess and the belief that an upstart program would need his youthful exuberance.

Carter's charisma has kept the program energized despite a 0-3 start and with the team's first win under his belt, Carter now has something tangible to sell.

Three-star running back Eddie Jackson, two-star offensive tackles Billy Wilson and David Martin along with one-star center Calvin Lawrence all committed to Long Beach State following Saturday's win over Army.

Al four of them took official visits this weekend along with quarterback Ryan Mason and guard Kyle Robinson.

Mason did update his top three to a top two, citing only Long Beach State and San Jose State, who he is set to visit later this season.

The longstanding belief has been that the 49ers will carry two quarterbacks in this class and it has looked like Ryan Mason and John Johnson, who the team expects to make an official visit against Ball State.

Enter a third quarterback into the fray, four-star quarterback Ken Poland out of Skokie, Illinois. Poland is the fifth ranked quarterback in the country and had previously not been linked to Long Beach State in anyway but after he was expelled from his high school over the summer, Georgia and LSU's interest in him have cooled down.

Carter visited Poland on Sunday night, a sign that there is a least some interest there from both sides. It still remains a long shot but with the bulk of their targets now considered locks, Long Beach State is taking some Hail Mary's on the recruiting trail.

Five-star running back Chris Lee out of North Carolina is a name that the staff has taken a jab at along with in-state four-star athlete Michael Carter out of Colton, California.

While it remains highly unlikely that the 49ers will land even one of those players or even be in their final three, the pursuit of them does have a positive impact. Firstly, it forces some of Long Beach State's recruits to consider committing now and locking up a spot in the class. Following his visit, Mason didn't seem to be in a hurry to commit but with Poland now in the mix, he might want to secure his spot as one of the quarterbacks in the class. The same with three-star running back Chris Latimer and the team's newfound interest in Lee.

Secondly, the staff will get some much needed experience when it comes to recruiting high caliber players and can improve on their failures if/when they fail to secure the commitment of these highly recruited players. Two years from now, if Long Beach State finds themselves as one of the hats on national television during national signing day, it won't be so crazy to consider attending Long Beach State if you're a four-star recruit.
