PACIFIC NAMES JOHN FASSEL FIRST HEAD COACH
Former Raiders Special Teams Coach Played at Pacific in the Mid 1990s
January 3, 2012

Two days after he was fired by the Raiders along with the rest of the coaching staff John Fassel has agreed to be the new head coach of the Pacific football team as they make their return.

On January 17, 2009, Oakland Raiders owner Al Davis promoted Fassel to special teams coordinator after Brian Schneider took a job with Pete Carroll at USC.

At the end of the 2011 NFL season, the Oakland Raiders fired head coach Hue Jackson and the entire coaching staff, including Fassel. During the season, Fassel had three special teams players (K Sebastian Janikowski, P Shane Lechler, and LS Jon Condo) selected to the 2012 Pro Bowl.

Fassel was the head coach at New Mexico Highlands during the 2003-04 seasons. They were 3-18 during his tenure.

Fassel prepped for two years at Milford Academy in New Berlin, New York before attending the University of the Pacific in Stockton, California, where he played on the Pacific Tigers football team before they dropped their program in December 1995. He then played wide receiver at Weber State University and, following graduation, spent time as an undrafted rookie free agent for the Indianapolis Colts in the preseason of the 1999 season.

He is known by the nickname "Bones." He is also the son of former NFL head coach Jim Fassel.

PACIFIC FOOTBALL LANDS FIRST RECRUIT
Two star St. Francis WR Braden Bishop Commits
January 8, 2012

The first recruit for the Pacific Tigers football team is Braden Bishop. Rivals lists the Mountain View, California native as a two star receiver. Bishop had interest from Washington, Arizona, Arizona State and Boise State among others. Bishop ultimately chose Pacific because he wanted to be able to play baseball as well as football which coach Fassel not only approved of but encouraged. Bishop also stated that he was excited to get in on the ground floor and help build something special in Stockton.

FASSEL KEEPS IT IN THE FAMILY, HIRES DAD
Former NFL head coach joins Pacific staff as OC
January 14, 2012

John Fassel has made his first addition to the coaching staff, convincing his father and former NFL head coach John Fassel to come on board as the team's offensive coordinator.

Fassel most recently served as the head coach and GM of the UFLs Las Vegas Locomotives whom he led to an 18-7 record and won a pair of championships.

Fassel will also lead the scouting and recruiting team.

"It's great." John Fassel said of the hire. "We always talked about having an opportunity to work together and it was kind of a joke when I got this job but then we both kept talking about it and mom kind of pushed us to go for it. We're really looking forward to it."

Fassel turns 63 later this year but neither Fassel feel like his age will be a factor.

The Fassels plan to work together to fill out the rest of their staff over the next few weeks.
