PACIFIC KEEPS IT CLOSE AGAINST OKLAHOMA
Tigers play much better in 28-14 loss at Oklahoma
Norman, Oklahoma - After getting completely destroyed by USC in their last game the Pacific Tigers played admirably in a 28-14 loss at Oklahoma.
After each team went three and out to start the game Pacific put together a 10 play drive and capped in with a four yard Myles Carr touchdown pass to Christian Tober, giving Pacific a 7-0 lead.
Early in the second quarter Oklahoma kicker Michael Hunnicutt hit the left upright on a 36 yard field goal attempt and Pacific maintained their lead.
Two plays later Oklahoma DT Jordan Phillips sacked Carr and forced a fumble. Linebacker Frank Shannon scooped it up and ran in into the endzone. Hunnicutt tied it up at 7-7.
Following a Pacific punt Oklahoma needed only two plays to take the lead with runningback Alex Ross scoring on a 36 yard run. Pacific DT Cody Temple had a shot at Ross in the backfield but missed.
Late in the second quarter Pacific was driving only to have a Carr pass picked off by Shannon in the redzone. Two plays later Oklahoma QB Blake Bell was picked off by Brandon Chin. Pacific gave the ball right back two plays after that on another Carr interception. Oklahoma ran out the clock and it was the Sooners up 14-7 at halftime.
Blake Bell scored on a four yard run on Oklahoma’s first possession of the second half, making it 21-7. Bell completed passes to Dannon Cavil for 25 and 19 yards on the drive.
Following a Pacific punt Oklahoma extended their lead again when Bell connected with Cavil for a 29 yard touchdown pass, capping an eight play drive.
Pacific then put together a 14 play drive that culminated in a 19 yard Carr to Tober touchdown pass. Fullback Cody Barnett ran up the middle to convert a fourth and inches at the Oklahoma 23.
Oklahoma recovered Pacific’s onside kick attempt but Arvis Price III picked off Blake Bell on their first offensive play.
Following a pair of sacks Carr threw incomplete looking for Tober. Pacific punted and Oklahoma ran out the clock to seal the win.
“They’re immensely talented obviously.” Fassel said after the game. “They’ve got a number of guys that are probably going to be playing on Sunday. We’re proud of the effort we gave today and we’re ready to move onto our conference schedule.”
Pacific has next week off then they will travel to Nevada on October 4th.
