Huskies extend backup QB Eason ahead of season finale as starters expected to be limited
Sebastian Barnes -- Dynasty Sports Staff Writer

The Toronto Huskies have extended backup quarterback Jacob Eason two more years at $5.12 million, a deal that has been in the works for quite some time according to a source close to the team.

The extension gives Toronto a more stable backup situation after relying on veterans such as Cam Newton in past seasons and Matthew Stafford this season to backup Trevor Lawrence. Eason, who is only 26, was a third round pick back in 2020 by the Tampa Bay Buccaneers but has yet to start a game and has sparingly played.

Huskies head coach Eric Bienemy was non-commital on whether or not quarterback Trevor Lawrence will play on Sunday against Pittsburgh in a rather meaningless game. The team already lost receiver Rondale Moore to a broken hand which could have him miss the divisional round game.

Should Lawrence not start or perhaps not play the entire game, Eason could be given his first real opportunity in the NFL as he has just 28 career attempts

D'Eriq King is the Steelers QB? Interesting. Before next season an around the league update of QBs and top players on each team would be swell. Assuming you keep playing after you win a superbowl.

Panthers knock Lawrence out of the game but can't knock out Huskies as Toronto advances to NFC championship game
The Carolina Panthers seemed to be well on their way to an upset of the top seeded Toronto Huskies and that was before a questionable hit out bounds took Trevor Lawrence out of the game with Toronto already trailing 21-10 with under a minute left in the first half.

With five first round picks along its offensive line, Toronto would go on to rush for 388 yards en-route to a comeback effort with Matthew Stafford at the helm to take down the Panthers 32-29 and advance to back-to-back conference championship games.

Lawrence, who reportedly broke his collarbone, was scrambling out of bounds when Carolina safety John Johnson III appeared to have hit him out of bounds but a flag wasn't called. Stafford replaced Lawrence and threw the ball just seven times with two of his three completions going for touchdowns.

His second touchdown to Chris Godwin gave Toronto a 26-21 lead with 4:30 left in the game. Stafford would not throw a single pass for the rest of the game. Instead, Toronto ran the clock out, kicking two more field goals and recovering an onside kick following a late Carolina touchdown to hold on to the victory.

Toronto will now host Justin Fields and the New Orleans Saints, presumably without Lawrence in the conference championship game.
