Huskies Notebook ‣ Toronto Huskies Daily News
Tom E. Reiss -- ESPN.com Huskies Beat Reporter

‣ Sampson heads to IR as LB Christian Jackson signed from practice squad

The Toronto Huskies have placed running back Kyree Sampson on injured reserve and have signed linebacker Christian Jackson to their active roster.

Sampson, 23, was in the midst of his best season as a pro before dislocating his hip last week against the New York Giants. Sampson had 590 yards on the season while averaging 5.2 yards per carry while bringing his fumbles down to two after fumbling five times last season.

Toronto will head into the playoffs with the three headed backfield of Angel McBride, Sherwin Florence and Travis Etienne.

‣ Rousseau starting to get it going as Huskies near playoffs

Toronto felt that last season, they were too reliant on the combo of Chase Young and Nolan Garrison to generate a pass rush so they went out and signed pass rushing specialist Gregory Rousseau.

While Rousseau hasn't lived up to his $7.92 million cap hit for the entire season, all will be forgotten if his improved play continues into the playoffs.

Rousseau is coming off his three best performances of the season all coming in consecutive weeks while Garrison has also started to get it going as a pass rusher. Rousseau has 3.5 sacks on the season with two of them coming in that stretch.

‣ James not worried about kicking woes

When it matters the most, Toronto kicker Stanley James has come through with back-to-back game winners.

James is just 78 percent on his kicks this season and even more worrisome, has missed three extra points. While last year's shank in the Super Bowl is what many people remembered, James was pretty good as a rookie, earning All-Pro honors.

He was 92 percent on his field goals and 98 percent on his extra points. He's already missed more kicks than he did all of last season but he's not worried.

"I'll be fine," said James, "Obviously you don't want to miss kicks, especially ones where you should make them but I'm not worried. You miss one, you make another one."

Injury bug bites Huskies once more as McBride heads to IR; Lawrence-Etienne backfield reunited again
Phil E. Curran -- ESPN.com

Last winter, Toronto had to make it's run towards the Super Bowl without it's star quarterback. This time around, they'll need to do it without their star tailback.

Huskies running back Angel McBride broke his collarbone on Sunday in the team's win over the Los Angeles Chargers, sidelining him for the rest of the season as the Huskies placed him on IR on Monday as they brought in a few veterans for a workout before signing running back Keith Patrick.

Patrick has 224 career rushing yards and his ability as a receiver provides the Huskies some flexibility to flex him out wide as they are also thin at receiver as they await the return of Richard Leonard in the playoffs.

The Huskies have now lost two running backs in as many weeks with McBride joining their second leading rusher Kyree Sampson on IR. The Huskies will now need to rely on preseason star Travis Etienne as well as former Rookie of the Year winner Sherwin Florence, who has become an after thought in the Huskies offense.

Fans will need to wait, however, before they see Etienne and Trevor Lawrence in the backfield as starters once more. The Clemson duo is likely going to be sidelined this week along with most of the starters as the Huskies have already clinched the top seed in the NFC.
