Chargers Go WR in Fourth, Draft Idaho State WR Hargrove
The Los Angeles Chargers have selected wide receiver Shannon Hargrove out of Idaho State with the 128th pick in the NFL Draft.

Sometimes scouting is as simple as looking up to see whose led the NCAA in receptions the past two seasons and that was Hargrove. The level of competition is certainly going to be a big adjustment for Hargrove and physically, nothing is imposing about Hargrove.

He's 5'11" and weighs 204 pounds and did most of his damage in the short passing game, averaging under eleven yards per reception over the course of his career. His skill sets, however, fit a need that the Chargers in just having a reliable target. Over the past season, that safety blanket has been Hunter Henry who is in Philadelphia now. Can Hargrove come in and compete right away? Probably not. Can he contribute? Most likely. And you can't ask much more than that from your borderline fourth round pick.

Chargers Take Chance on Former Five-Star Recruit Dupree
The Los Angeles Chargers have selected defensive lineman Nicholas Dupree out of LSU with the 160th pick in the NFL Draft.

Dupree was a former five-star recruit at LSU whose off field struggles dominated headlines. He came in as a defensive end but quickly outgrew the position due to what many within program described as poor weight management. With the added weight, most of it bad weight, Dupree made the switch to defensive tackle and just never found success due to three different suspensions until his redshirt senior season which saw him tally eight sacks.

With a solid showing in the combine which included a 4.87 40-time and his weight under 300 pounds (weighed in at 287 pounds at the Combine), there are some intriguing qualities with Dupree as an interior pass rusher. Unfortunately for Dupree, the Chargers have plenty of those in Vincent Zellner, Christian Childs and even in their first round pick, Deacon Yates. Can he get on the field as a rookie?

Running Back Room Adds Some Competition in Boston College's Donte Sylvester
The Los Angeles Chargers have selected Boston College running back Donte Sylvester with the 181st pick in the NFL Draft and fullback Khyri Alexis with their final pick.

Sylvester at one point was leading the nation in rushing yards as a sophomore before a knee injury sidelined him for the rest of the year and chunks of his junior season. There's some talent there and his size at 237 pounds is certainly a dynamic that the team doesn't have a whole lot of at running back.

Nevertheless, it'll be a crowded room for Sylvester to try to break through.

As far as Alexis, it's become almost tradition that the Chargers draft at least one utility/gadget player in the mold of Eric Harper and Teryan Vanover. They've both been success stories and Alexis will certainly get his chance in the preseason to make his impact felt.

He's more Harper than Vanover as he's a traditional fullback with some decent abilities as a ball carrier.

2029 Los Angeles Chargers Preview: Castonzo no longer rookie or rising sophomore, he's the 'big stepper'
Will Castonzo had one hell of a glow up in 2028 as he went from a game manager as a rookie that just happened to win the Super Bowl to the MVP of the league with another Super Bowl as the cherry on top.

Castonzo proved he could do it last year with injuries all over the backfield at times and without D.K. Metcalf for the playoff run. Add in a few broken ribs, a bruised lung that may or may not have been punctured and the folklore has begun.

Three-peats are rare in this league. Three-peats in your first three seasons? Unheard of and that's what Castonzo is chasing this season.

Projected depth chart
#10 Will Castonzo, Age 23 | 6'1", 223lbs | 87 ovr, 87 spd, 92 thp, 94 sac, 95 mac, 84 dac
#9 D.J. Owens, Age 29 | 6'2", 224lbs | 70 ovr, 85 spd, 87 thp, 85 sac, 85 mac, 76 dac

Potential Roster Cuts
#8 Wade Calloway, Age 24 | 6'6", 230lbs | 57 ovr, 62 spd, 89 thp, 70 sac, 75 mac, 71 dac
#6 Zack Bender, Age 22 [R] | 6'3", 218lbs | 55 ovr, 86 spd, 79 thp, 80 sac, 72 mac, 68 dac

Expected starter: Castonzo, clearly.

Preseason storyline: D.J. Owens has a very similar skillset to Castonzo and he played at a bigger school coming out for the draft, he might have gotten similar opportunities as a young player. Owens never quite got the opportunity and has been a career backup. With plenty of preseason snaps to go around with Castonzo likely not playing much, will he show enough to attract a team or two?
