Moreland burnt deep in final seconds as Redskins drop another close one in preseason
Sebastian Barnes -- Dynasty Sports Staff Writer

Washington had plenty of chances to draft Jalen Hurts in last spring's draft but chose not to. Hurts' burnt them twice -- once to force overtime and once more to convert a third-and-23 in overtime -- as the Detroit Lions beat the Washington Redskins 23-20.

Jimmy Moreland was on the receiving hand of the first coverage bust -- a 31-yard touchdown-- while Quinton Dunbar allowed the 24-yard completion in overtime.

Hurts outplayed both Dwayne Haskins and Cardale Jones, throwing for 199 yards on 16 of 21 passing. Jones finished 10 of 14 with 155 yards, a touchdown but two interceptions while Haskins uneventful -- both negatively and positively -- preseason continued with 93 yards passing.

Bryce Love started to show some explosiveness with 56 yards rushing while Chase Young recorded his first two career sacks, albeit in the preseason.

Two-point conversion goes awry as Redskins drop another one
Sebastian Barnes -- Dynasty Sports Staff Writer

Cardale Jones' first pass bounced off the hands of a receiver and into the hands of a Tennessee Titans defender. With a minute left in the game, Jones got the ball back with just one completion to his name and down seven points.

Jones led the team down the field and completed the 15-yard touchdown pass to Trey Quinn with seconds left in the game and when the Redskins went for the win instead of the tie, Jones' pass sailed into the fan section with no receiver in sight.

Dwayne Haskins did manage to put together his first touchdown of the preseason, a 6-yard pass to David Sills V. Haskins had his best game of the preseason which isn't saying much as he completed 58 percent of his passes for 117 yards, a touchdown and an interception.

Trent Taylor had his breakout game with six catches for 70 yards while Terry McLaurin's quiet preseason continued (3 catches, 22 yards). Derrius Guice saw a bit more activity with 8 carries for 28 yards.

Chase Young shared a sack with Da'ron Payne along with five tackles.

Redskins' owner Snyder pleads guilty to tax evasion scheme
Sean Caesar -- Dynasty Sports Redskins Beat Reporter

Washington Redskins owner Daniel Snyder pleaded guilty to tax evasion today, announced Principal Deputy Assistant Attorney General Richard E. Zuckerman of the Justice Department’s Tax Division and Chief of Internal Revenue Service- Criminal Investigation (IRS-CI) Jonathan D. Larsen.

“The defendant funded his lavish lifestyle by failing to pay legally obligated taxes thus causing harm to all Americans,” said Principal Deputy Assistant Attorney General Richard E. Zuckerman. “We remain committed to prosecuting tax criminals who refuse to pay their fair share.”

“As he admitted in court, Daniel Snyder and his co-conspirators cooked his books for years, skimming money from his various business enterprises and salting it away in personal accounts or using it for personal expenses,” said Zuckerman. “His scheme was a recipe for making millions in unreported income, but now he will have to pay for his gluttony.”

“When Mr. Snyder chose to hide millions of dollars from the IRS, he unfairly shifted the tax burden to honest American taxpayers,” said IRS-CI Chief Jonathan D. Larsen. “This is a stark reminder of the serious consequences of tax evasion, including potential imprisonment. IRS-CI will continue to be relentless in our mission to root out tax fraud.”

Snyder used the diverted income for personal expenses, including: overseas transfers; condominium fees; rent for a high-end Washington D.C. apartment; shopping at luxury retailers, such as Hugo Boss and Saks Fifth Avenue; payments for luxury cars manufactured by Mercedes, Porsche, and Maserati; and to pay for domestic and international travel.

U.S. District Judge Paul G. Gardephe set sentencing for October 23, 2020. At sentencing, Snyder faces a maximum sentence of five years in prison. He also faces a term of supervised release and monetary penalties. As part of his plea agreement, Snyder agreed to pay restitution of $6,213,478 to the IRS, and to pay restitution of $1,257,717 to MDTF.

The NFL and the Washington Redskins refused to comment on the situation.

Redskins preseason finale cancelled as league launches investigation
Sebastian Barnes -- Dynasty Sports Staff Writer

The Washington Redskins spent the least amount of money this offseason among all NFL teams with many speculating that this was due to a cash-flow problem within the front office which was caused by Daniel Snyder's legal troubles. Besides that, the team seemed to be unaffected by Snyder's legal issues.

This is no longer the case.

The Redskins and the NFL, along with their fourth preseason opponent the Miami Dolphins, announced that the team's final preseason game has been cancelled. This comes just hours after Snyder pleaded guilty to tax evasion fraud, a charge that could land the billionaire owner in prison for five years.

Within the next day, the NFL announced that there was an ongoing investigation into the matter as Snyder's tax fraud involved the Redskins' owner. The team was set to play the Dolphins the following day but the team cancelled that game.

As of today, the team still plans on opening their season in six days against the Los Angeles Rams.

Negotiations for sale of Redskins break down as potential buyer pushes for relocation approval
Sean Caesar -- Dynasty Sports Redskins Beat Reporter

Dynasty Sports insider D.J. Perrier reported that Daniel Snyder, who is awaiting his sentencing after pleading guilty in court to tax evasion fraud, had quietly agreed to sell his majority portion of the team to a 'silent buyer'. The agreement was dependent that the buyer and his group would then get an emergency approval from the NFL to allow him to relocate the team.

The buyer nor the relocation destination has not been named but according to sources, the NFL quickly stepped in upon hearing these rumors over the last several days and negotiations have stopped. Relocation approvals occur at the owners meeting in March so the prospective buyer would need to wait until the next calendar year, should they purchase the team this season, and then request to move the team in 2022. Perrier also reported that Sean 'Diddy' Combs and Jay-Z are currently working together to perhaps come in and buy the Redskins with hopes of keeping the city in Washington.

Jay-Z would need to surrender his stake in Roc Nation Sports Agency in order to do so which is a current point of contention. A source close to the situation told Perrier that the likely outcome is that Snyder, even while potentially incarcerated, remains the majority owner of the Redskins. The league, at this point, has not discussed a 'hostile' takeover similar to what happened with the Los Angeles Clippers and owner Donald Sterling.

I like what we have at tight end as a group so going to be tough for him to climb the depth chart.
