The Toronto Huskies and pass rusher Chase Young have put negotiations on hold according to a source within the organization.
Young has reportedly turned down the last two offers from Toronto, both in the $180 million range, and is instead eyeing a potential free agency. However, according to the same source, the likely outcome is that Young is franchise tagged this season and will then attempt to enter free agency next season.
Young's camp believes that in a true open market, the league's leading pass rusher will be able to fetch numbers closer to the quarterbacks. While the Huskies offers so far have been good enough to make Young the highest paid non-quarterback, it still falls short of the quarterback money. Cincinnati's Joe Burrow, taken one pick before Young in the draft a few years ago, just signed a six year, $209 million deal.
"He's going to be football's first $200 million non-quarterback," said the same source.
With twelve sacks on the season already, Young is on pace to have an historic season which only further prove his case to receive an historic contract.
