Inside the Pack by James Bazemore ‣ Dynasty Sports
November 27, 2023
‣ Huskies re-sign 2020 class standouts Muti and Hopkins to extensions

The Toronto Huskies have re-sign tight end Brycen Hopkins and guard Netane Muti to extensions, the team announced on Monday.

Hopkins' extension is reported to be three year, $12 million while Muti comes in at four year, $25.8 million. They were both drafted in the 2020 draft class along with defensive end Chase Young with Muti being selected later in the first round with the 31st pick and Hopkins being selected in the fifth round.

Hopkins made the pro bowl and was an All-Pro in his second season, catching 88 passes for 1,107 yards and five touchdowns. Since that season where he played all sixteen games, however, Hopkins has been limited with injuries. He missed seven games last season and four games so far this season. Even when he's been on the field this season, his number have dipped, averaging just 29.8 yards per game compared to the 69.2 he averaged in 2021 and his 46.7 last season.

The addition of tight end Shawn Starr, a third round pick in this year's draft, has also lessened Hopkins' snap with Starr being the more reliable blocker.

Muti is having a career year at left guard after playing right guard his first two seasons before moving to center last season where he allowed a career high 13 sacks after allowing just ten sacks his first two seasons combined. This season, he's only allowed one sack.

‣ Peterson heads to IR, hints at potential retirement

The Huskies placed cornerback Patrick Peterson on injured reserve after the corner broke his ribs against Buffalo, not just ending his season but potentially his career. The 33-year old corner took to Instagram Live after the announcement was made and spent over an hour talking to his fans.

During the IG Live, Peterson gave props to cornerback Ashley Konrad, citing that he has the best ball skills he's ever seen from a corner and told Huskies fans to be patient with receiver Richard Leonard, who also suffered a rib injury against Buffalo and is out once more.

"That boy is special," said Peterson, responding to a fan who asked about who the toughest guy to cover in practice was, "He's long, he's got speed and he's physical, his looks deceive you."

The selection of Leonard in the third round, coming out a small school in Charleston Southern, was highly criticized after they allowed Terry McLaurin to sign with the New York Jets.

The team signed veteran cornerback Casey Hayward Jr. and are hopeful that cornerback Chidobe Awuzie, who has missed the entire season due to a compound foot fracture, will be able to return from IR.
