Johnson officially named as starter after three starts ahead of big game vs. Oklahoma
Cooper Byrd -- Dynasty Sports Staff Writer

USF head coach Malcolm Francois management of the starting quarterback battle has been extremely close to the vest but 100 passes and three games later, we have an official starter for the Bulls.

Francois announced during a media scrum on Wednesday that redshirt freshman David Johnson has officially been named the starter. With Johnson playing all of the snaps this season, the announcement was sort of tongue in cheek with Francois even giving a wry smile as he addressed the media.

"D.J. [Johnson] has done good," said Francois, "He's made mistakes, an interception in each game but he's bounced back well.

Johnson leads the country with 104 passing attempts and is third in yards with 805 passing yards.

Bulls add two more commitment to class as Texas Tech weekend continues to add high profile visitors
Eddie Fernandez -- 247 Sports USF Insider

Four-star athlete Ben Lewis out of Tampa, Florida and four-star receiver Chad Hale out of Burkburnett, Texas has committed to the South Florida Bulls to become the fourth and fifth member of what promises to be a loaded recruiting class.

Lewis, who projects as a corner at six-feet and 185 pounds, was at the team's win over Oklahoma along with Hale. Lewis had offers from Georgia Tech, UCF and Mississippi State among others while Hale was being recruited by the likes of Boise State, Ohio State, Alabama and Texas Tech.

Speaking of the Red Raiders, the Bulls are scheduled to host them in a couple weeks after this current stretch of road games. It promises to be a star-studded weekend with visits from five-star receiver Ben Medlock, five-star athlete James Thomas, five-star athlete Chuck Sanders, four-star linebacker Scott Stewart, four-star center Bryan McBride, four-star offensive tackle Frank Lucas, three-star tight end Jonathan Lamb and most importantly, four-star quarterback Michael Harrell.

After not signing a quarterback in last cycle, the Bulls are now desperate to land a top one in Harrell. Harrell's brother, Nick, plays on the FIU track team while their father is an assistant strength coach for the Panthers. Harrell committed to the Panthers before re-opening his recruitment as a rising junior. Despite the de-commitment, the Panthers remain the team to beat for this legacy recruit.

2019 Recruiting Class
ATH Marcus Hines [ATH #3]: 6'2", 179lbs | Tampa, FL | 5-star
ATH Ben Lewis [ATH #39]: 6'0", 185lbs | Tampa, FL | 4-star
LB Stephen Hill [LB #17]: 6'4", 249lbs | Weslaco, TX | 4-star
WR Chad Hale [WR #27]: 6'2", 188lbs | Burkburnett, TX | 4-star
TE Brian Knox [TE #51]: 6'4", 252lbs | Lauderdale Lakes, FL | 3-star
