Four-star Miami Northwestern tight end Russell Arrington commits to Bulls over Tide
Eddie Fernandez -- 247 Sports USF Insider

The city of Miami has been kind to USF throughout Malcolm Francois Sr's tenure while at USF, landing several top prospect over the years from the '305' from William Stone to Travis Hughes to Jed White. But recently, USF has had some tough sledding with the area, losing out on some top recruits but were able to land one on Friday as tight end Russell Arrington committed to USF over Alabama, Troy, FIU and Mississippi State following his official visit.

While Arrington's game isn't as flashy as some of the names listed, he fills a big need for USF at the position as they add one of the better blocking tight ends to come out in recent years. An imposing figure at six-foot-six and 270 pounds, Arrington looks like an extra tackle out there for powerhouse Miami Northwestern and has been compared as such by his coaches.

"I think he can easily be a top ten, top fifteen tackle prospect if he wanted to," said Northwestern head coach Adam Moore, "This is a kid that played [offensive line] coming up, played some defense, running back, he's got it all really."

Arrington will need to continue developing as a pass catcher in order to maximize his potential as his unique size and blocking ability will get him on the field early but he does suffer from drops and his route running has plenty of room for improvement. From a body type perspective, Arrington is similar to fellow tight end commit Jake Bryant who is listed just ten pounds lighter than Arrington but Arrington is the better blocker and overall athlete while Bryant is a bit more developed as a receiver and better with the ball in his hands.

Either way, if both are able to improve as pass catchers, they will make life very difficult for defenses when they're on the field.

USF survives road trip to Georgia as they keep their undefeated season alive
USF defensive end Marcellus Smith's missed tackle on Georgia quarterback DeAndre Richard led to the 47-yard touchdown to Reggie McIntire in the second quarter.

It might have taken a while but Smith was able to redeem himself, sacking Richard in the fourth quarter to setup USF's game winning drive and then sealed the Bulls victory with a pressure that led to Clarence Sullivan's interception as USF escaped Sanford Stadium with the 32-31 victory over the Bulldogs.

Georgia ruled the third quarter, scoring two touchdowns and stopping USF at the goal line on fourth down to take the 31-24 lead heading into the fourth quarter. The Bulls once again found themselves near the end zone but quarterback Mark Cunningham would be intercepted by linebacker Dwayne Harris on a leaping grab as Cunningham tried to find Scott Price.

USF's defense would hold down the fort, forcing back to back punts to give USF the ball back with 1:44 remaining and no timeouts. The Bulls offense once again got going thanks to a 20-yard completion across the middle to Carl Graham to get them back in the red zone.

USF took their time, eventually scoring with twelve seconds left in the game as Price broke free from the coverage near the goal line. The Bulls then opted to go for two with Justin Thomas bouncing the run to the outside to find paydirt.

"We stared the drive with a two-point conversion in mind," said USF offensive coordinator Peter Nicholson after the game, "That was always in the cards for us."

Two quick completions got Georgia in Hail Mary territory but Smith's pressure was able to ruin the play before it even started.

The Bullpen: Bulls trout out different starters in win over Georgia
Jonathan Bright -- BullsNation.com Football Reporter

USF started three different starters against Georgia than they had the week prior against Michigan with Jake Thompson replacing Nick Ryan at left guard and Ryan Robinson replacing Damon Hill at inside linebacker and Taylor Smith getting the start at tight end instead of Earl May.

Ryan eventually replaced Thompson in the second half as did Ryan Jefferson, finishing out the game in the place of Cole Britton at right tackle who started his third game of the season at the position.

Hill also eventually got back into the game but for different reasons as Robison left it with a lower body injury. Prior to that, Robinson had four tackles and a tackle for loss while Hill did not record a stat. The benching of Hill came after Trai Martinez' comments last week, citing a lack of playmaking ability at the linebacker position.

Robinson is expected to be available following the upcoming bye week. Martinez did not comment on who would start at the position going forward.

‣ WR Joshua Butler to miss at least a month of football following collarbone injury

Due to the rotational nature of the position this season, USF fans might not have noticed that receiver Joshua Butler injured his collarbone against Michigan and didn't return with fellow true freshman Eddie Shaw playing the rest of the game.

Unlike the NFL, college football teams aren't required to disclose injuries and USF didn't, at least not until a week later when Butler didn't travel with the team to Athens to play the Bulldogs. After the game, USF head coach Malcolm Francois Sr. announced that Butler suffered a collarbone injury in the Michigan game and would be out for at least a month.

It's unclear if surgery was required which would extend Butler's timeline for return. The former five-star recruit has been a co-starter this season at one of the outside receiver positions, catching eleven passes for 158 yards and a touchdown.

Butler's injury thrusted Eddie Shaw into a full-time starter against the Dawgs, catching four passes for 31 yards. On the season, Shaw is third on the team in all categories with 28 receptions, 316 yards and a touchdown.

While Shaw is more than capable of the full time load, USF's depth does take a hit, as shown in the Georgia game when sophomore receiver Andre Morgan also went down with an injury, leaving the team with just four receivers and resulted in safety Anthony Gunn catching a touchdown pass in his lone snap on offense as a reserve.

Tight ends Joe Wilson and Taylor Smith also saw snaps at receiver. USF receivers coach Jimmy Marks said after the game that he expects Morgan to be available after the bye week.

‣ Bulls bye week comes at perfect time as they recharge for final push to the playoffs

After a physical and tough game against Georgia, the Bulls are on a bye this week before getting ready for the final stretch of the season which includes road trips to Purdue and BYU before not leaving the state of Florida for the rest of the season with home games against Texas, Oregon and Michigan State and a road trip to Florida State before the Michigan State game.

It's a very favorable end of the season for USF with Purdue, Texas and Michigan State the only ranked opponents currently and two of them at home. While winning the Champions Division is certainly the goal to help land the top seed in the CFP, the Bulls can clinch a spot in the CFP by just finishing 3-2 against Champions Division opponents Purdue, BYU, Texas, Oregon and Michigan State.
