2016 USF Bulls football preview: Bulls bring back talented stable in the backfield behind McCray, Ward
Cooper Byrd -- Dynasty Sports Staff Writer

The rushing attack has been a staple in Malcolm Francois' tenure at USF, whether utilizing a single lead back or a deep rotation, the Bulls have always been able to run the football.

This season appears to be no different with the team returning all of their contributors from last season while talented sophomores Leon Ward and Richard Miller are now juniors and heading towards their third year of being active contributors.

A look at USF’s running back situation:

Projected depth chart
#23 Stafon McCray, Rs Jr. | 5'11", 211lbs | 85 ovr, 88 spd, 93 acc, 79 btk, 85 car OR
#6 Darius Tice, Sr. | 5'10", 203lbs | 81 ovr, 93 spd, 95 acc, 73 btk, 86 car OR
#25 Leon Ward, Jr. | 6'0", 187lbs | 78 ovr, 91 spd, 92 acc, 76 btk, 73 car
#24 Richard Miller, Jr. | 6'2", 221lbs | 78 ovr, 83 spd, 87 acc, 80 btk, 70 car
#29 Brian Reynolds, Fr. | 6'0", 225lbs | 68 ovr, 84 spd, 88 acc, 66 btk, 62 car

Expected starter: McCray will be the lead back followed by Tice and Ward in a three-man rotation.

Major storyline: Do the Bulls get a 1,000-yard rusher this season. Last season was the only year that USF has not had a 1,000-yard rusher in Francois' tenure at USF. While this is due to the depth of the position and keeping the guys fresh, Steven Bench also accounted for the most carries on the team. With Bench gone, who picks up the slack?

2016 USF Bulls football preview: Just how good will this receiver group end up being?
Cooper Byrd -- Dynasty Sports Staff Writer

No position has led to more oohs and ahhs from the open practice sessions as the receiver group. When you add in a five-star talent like Zac White and an elite track star in Franklin Sapp, that's to be expected.

There are six freshman receivers on the roster and with attrition, some will not be here in a few years but nevertheless, the amount of young talent and potential at the position is ridiculous.

A look at USF’s receiver situation:

Projected depth chart
#1 Zac White, Fr. | 5'10", 218lbs | 78 ovr, 89 spd, 83 acc, 79 cth
#4 Franklin Sapp, Fr. | 6'3", 186lbs | 78 ovr, 93 spd, 92 acc, 80 cth
#10 Zach Benjamin, Sr. | 6'4", 189lbs | 93 ovr, 85 spd, 94 acc, 99 cth
#84 Alex Mut, Rs Sr. | 6'3", 193lbs | 78 ovr, 90 spd, 86 acc, 80 cth
#80 Corey Sharp, Fr. | 6'1", 192lbs | 72 ovr, 88 spd, 88 acc, 71 cth
#87 Jay Stevens, Fr. | 6'0", 193lbs | 69 ovr, 85 spd, 80 acc, 70 cth
#86 Scott Diggs, Fr. | 6'2", 191lbs | 67 ovr, 77 spd, 82 acc, 71 cth
#83 Alex Strong, So. | 6'1", 224lbs | 67 ovr, 86 spd, 82 acc, 66 cth
#89 Matt Hill, Fr. | 6'1", 198lbs | 63 ovr, 86 spd, 76 acc, 69 cth

Expected starter: Benjamin and White likely on the outside and with Sapp in the slot with his ability to be a part of the running game with jet sweeps and bubble screens.

Major storyline: Just how good will White and Sapp be? The style of the offense limits them and being part of a more spread out offense might have accelerated their growth but in an offense where guys like D'vario Montgomery are able to put up numbers, you can only dream about the production that White and Sapp will put out.

2016 USF Bulls football preview: Price's departure will be felt as Bulls rely on unproven tight ends
Cooper Byrd -- Dynasty Sports Staff Writer

If you've only been following this team since Malcolm Francois took over as head coach of the USF Bulls, you've never seen another player start at tight end outside of record breaking performer Sean Price. Price is in the NFL now and replacing him are a few intriguing but unproven players.

A look at USF’s tight end situation:

Projected depth chart
#13 Chris Golden, Jr. | 6'7", 263lbs | 74 ovr, 80 spd, 76 acc, 71 cth, 73 rbk OR
#81 Buck Burns, So. | 6'1", 240lbs | 73 ovr, 79 spd, 79 acc, 71 cth, 75 rbk OR
#88 Mike Henry, Rs So. | 6'2", 240lbs | 73 ovr, 79 spd, 78 acc, 78 cth, 73 rbk

Expected starter: It's tough to call it at this point and at the end it may not even matter. A rotation is the likely outcome at tight end but with Golden's size and seniority, he might get the nod.

Major storyline: Henry is the wild card as Golden and Burns are not natural pass catchers. Henry isn't as big as Golden and isn't as good of an in-line blocker as Burns but unlike those two, he doesn't struggle with drops.

Quarterback is slow at molasses, hope you're ready to read that defense.

Receivers are about to go stoopid.

2016 USF Bulls football preview: With a non-mobile quarterback, USF's offensive line will need to grow up fast
Cooper Byrd -- Dynasty Sports Staff Writer

There are no doubts to all the talent evaluators out there that in two seasons, USF will have arguably one of the best offensive line among Group of Five schools. The only question is can these young offensive linemen develop fast enough to keep this current offense afloat?

A look at USF’s offensive line situation:

Projected depth chart
LT - #77 Daren Charles, So. :: #62 Michael Lee, Rs Jr. :: #76 Quinton Payne, Fr.
LG - #68 Derrick Drew, Rs Fr. :: #72 Russ Martin, Rs Sr.
C - #53 Maurice Bell, So. :: #74 Kenny Brantley, Rs Fr.
RG - #60 Cameron Ruff, RS Jr. :: #63 Zac Thomas, Rs So. :: #79 Brian Brown, Fr.
RT - #61 Jeremi Hall, Rs Jr. :: #71 David Mitchell, Rs Jr. :: #73 Isaac Gutierrez, RS Fr.

Expected starters:
#77 Daren Charles, So. | 6'8", 306lbs | 78 ovr, 83 str, 84 pbk, 83 rbk
#68 Derrick Drew, Rs Fr. | 6'2", 307lbs | 77 ovr, 83 str, 83 pbk, 81 rbk
#53 Maurice Bell, So. | 6'4", 267lbs | 83 ovr, 85 str, 82 pbk, 87 rbk
#60 Cameron Ruff, RS Jr. | 6'4", 315lbs | 82 ovr, 92 str, 89 pbk, 78 rbk
#61 Jeremi Hall, Rs Jr. | 6'4", 354lbs | 76 ovr, 89 str, 84 pbk, 76 rbk

Major storyline: Three new starters along the offensive line and the two returning starters are Charles and Bell who were true freshman last season. The entire left side of the offensive line, including Bell at center, are just two years removed from playing high school football. Can they hold up?

2016 USF Bulls football preview: Hooper is the show but Calloway, Senat setting the tone
Cooper Byrd -- Dynasty Sports Staff Writer

Calling Fred Hooper one of the more intriguing athletes to ever play at USF before he's even played a down would not be an understatement. The 264 pound defensive end was a running back in high school and started spring camp this fall playing linebacker before a need at defensive end saw him make the switch.

The breakout player to watch for, however, is redshirt junior defensive tackle Deadrin Senat. Senat's been stuck behind some other guys at nose tackle but is now the unquestioned starter in the middle and flanking him is the uber productive Derrick Calloway who had seven sacks last season.

A look at USF’s defensive line situation:

Projected depth chart
DE - #59 Derrick Calloway, Rs Jr. :: #94 Auggie Sanchez, Rs Jr.
NT - #56 Deadrin Senat, Rs Jr. :: #99 Ross Barronn, Rs So. :: #93 Jamey Little, Fr. :: #98 Anton Tate, Jr.
DE - #57 Eric Mayes, Rs Jr. :: #12 Fred Hooper, Fr. :: #95 Bryan Walker, Rs Fr.

Expected starters:
#59 Derrick Calloway, Rs Jr. | 6'1", 327lbs | 82 ovr, 71 spd, 85 acc, 89 str, 78 bsh
#56 Deadrin Senat, Rs Jr. | 6'1", 323lbs | 91 ovr, 66 spd, 69 acc, 87 str, 81 bsh
#57 Eric Mayes, Rs Jr. | 6'4", 255lbs | 78 ovr, 66 spd, 71 acc, 83 str, 78 bsh OR #12 Fred Hooper, Fr. | 6'1", 264lbs | 68 ovr, 83 spd, 90 acc, 71 str, 59 bsh

Major storyline: The team is going to find a way to get Hooper on the field and when he is, can he be productive at a position he's literally never played before?
