Homecoming Weekend a huge success as Bulls add several commitments to reach top of recruiting class rankings
Eddie Fernandez -- 247 Sports USF Insider

The South Florida Bulls received eight commitments over the weekend, including one from five-star athlete James Thomas to give the Bulls the number one ranked recruiting class in the country.

The Bulls hosted twelve recruits over the weekend and eight of them committed at some point this weekend with the first being four-star center Bryan McBride out of Toledo, Ohio. McBride committed on Friday to jump start the weekend. McBride is an undersized center that might take a few years before he is ready and was recruited by Penn State and Air Force as well.

USF then added a pair of three stars in receiver James Ellison and defensive end John Mansfield with Ellison being a California prospect with legit sub 4.4 speed. Ellison was joined by another California native in tight end Jonathan Lamb, a three-star that gives the Bulls their second tight end of class along with three-star Fort Lauderdale tight end Brian Knox.

USF continued to beef up their offensive line with commitments from four-star offensive tackle Frank Lucas and then went on the defensive side with four-star ATH Chuck Sanders and linebacker Scott Stewart. Stewart was a big win for the Bulls as Georgia was hot on his trail and was able to flip the one time Bulldog commit.

Sanders offers some versatility at perhaps playing linebacker but ultimately, defensive end is where he best projects at.

The big get of the weekend was another athlete in James Thomas out of Miami, Florida. Thomas' most natural position is running back but he does also play defense for Gulliver Prep and was recruited as a safety by Oklahoma State.

It wasn't all good news for the Bulls. When the commitments kept coming in, rumors that five-star receiver Ben Medlock -- who was also on campus for a visit this weekend -- was a silent commitment was quickly shut down by Medlock. Medlock posted on his Instagram Live a picture of him wearing a Gators shirt.

The Bulls also failed to get a commit from four-star QB Michael Harrell who was also on campus. The Bulls wanted to lock up the quarterback position as they fear that Harrell's official visit with FIU in a few weeks will result with him committing to the school that has his brother on the track team and his father on their strength staff.

Bulls get their kicking specialist in Carrington, add another LB in Washington's Clark
Eddie Fernandez -- 247 Sports USF Insider

You can't always land five-stars.

A week removed from landing eight commitments and one from five-star athlete James Thomas, USF had a more quiet weekend but still added to their loaded 2019 recruiting class. Three-star linebacker Nate Clark and three-star punter Allen Carrington both committed to the Bulls.

Clark is a grown-man at linebacker, listed at six-foot-three and 240 pounds with decent mobility. He primarily plays inside linebacker at the high school level but projects more as an edge player at either outside linebacker or even defensive end. In previous defenses, he'd have been perfect for that BUCK linebacker role in the 3-4 defense but in the 4-3 defense that the Bulls currently deploy, Clark might fit in at defensive end.

In other recruiting news, the Bulls did offer three-star Miami QB Eric Whitworth in hopes of a backup plan should another Miami quarterback in Michael Harrell commits to FIU.

2019 Recruiting Class

That's actually a really good suggestion. I've updated the previous post to include some measurables.

Yeah, we have 15 seniors and a few potential early departures in the Georgia Boyz so planning to sign anywhere from 16 to 20 recruits and we're currently at 15.

Ideally, we reserve a spot for a QB and a kicker. After that, only going after elite recruits like four-star ATH Derrick Farris or the pipe dream that is five-star WR Ben Medlock

Tampa boys got burners.. Marcus Primetime Hines better get some KR/PR duties.

Actually James Thomas looks like he's got the measurables of Frank Gore.

Lastly, Stephen Hill looks like he could be a great under-the-radar snag.

Thanks for posting those bro

One of my house rules is no scouting so interested to see their true ratings. Hill definitely caught my eye as I was filling this out, all of the LBs actually as well as Sanders.

As far as Hines, he could have a pre-suspension Trey Davis type of a role.
