Jones throws five interception as Cougars rush for 604 yards in upset win over Bulls
A sunny day, three turnovers and conceding four touchdowns in the first half from USF quarterback Jeff Jones did not bode well for Washington State's chances of pulling off the upset.

The second half would be a different story with Jones being the one to be intercepted four times and Dale Scales rushed for 293 yards, including touchdowns of 72 and 63 yards in the fourth quarter, to beat No. 4 South Florida 51-41 on Saturday afternoon.

The Cougars clung on to life after falling down 24-10 in the second quarter but on fourth down from the 13-yard line, a fake field goal resulted in a touchdown to put seven on the board and even after surrendering a fourth touchdown to Jones, it kept morale high in the locker room, enough that fullback Marcus Hudson opened the second half with a 75-yard touchdown run to make it a one-score game.

Washington State was only able to put up a field goal after a USF punt but when Jones threw his first of four of second half interceptions, they capitalized with a touchdown to take the lead.

With the USF defense focusing on Hudson and shutting him down after the fullback had gained over 200 yards, it was Scales turn to take over the game. With the game tied following a USF field goal, Scales scored on a 72-yard run. USF tied the game with a 36-yard strike from Jones to Max McDonald who made two defenders missed before finding the endzone.

Scales scored on the second play from scrimmage on the ensuing possession, a sixty-three yard touchdown. Jones would end the final two possessions with interceptions.

The sprint to the dead period: Who can USF lock up before the post-season?
Eddie Fernandez -- 247 Sports USF Insider

It's been a quiet few weeks recruiting wise for the Bulls and last weekend's loss to unranked Washington State followed by a bye week made the silence even more noticeable. It wasn't that long ago that USF landed a commitment from five-star linebacker Josh Anderson and had a ton of high caliber recruits on campus for their official visits.

USF wasn't able to get all of them to commit and instead, find themselves in a waiting game having shown their best cards. This is where they stand with the rest of their board as they try to get them to commit before the end of the season.

HB Bobby Jackson [HB #2]: 5'9", 187lbs | Lehigh Acres, FL | 5-star
Official Visits: USF (week 6), Ole Miss (week 11), Alabama (week 14)
Projected Top Three: USF, Alabama, Ole Miss
Crystal Ball Leader: USF -- 62%
Update: It appeared to be USF's race to lose heading into his official visit with many predicting a commitment but the further away that visit is, the less of a lock it is for USF. The Bulls still feel good about their chances but this recruitment is looking like it might bleed into February which would stop Jackson from being an early enrollee, lessening his chances of making an impact as a true freshman.

HB/WR Stephen Jenkins [ATH #3]: 6'2", 215lbs | Waynesboro, PA | 5-star
Official Visits: USF (week 6), Syracuse (week 10), Ole Miss (week 11)
Projected Top Three: USF, Syracuse, Ole Miss
Crystal Ball Leader: Ole Miss -- 35%
Update: A few 247 Sports insiders, including one that covers Florida State, recently flipped Jenkins' crystal ball to Ole Miss which has been a trend for the past month since Jenkins visited USF earlier in the season. There are some concerns in Jenkins' close circle of how the Bulls plan to use him in the offense which has been a lot of ambiguity while Ole Miss has remained constant that he's a receiver, which is where he wants to play at the next level.

HB/WR Daniel Green [ATH #4]: 5'10", 187lbs | Florence, AL | 5-star
Official Visits: USF (week 6), Miami (week 8), Ohio State (week 13), Alabama (week 14)
Projected Top Four: Miami, USF, Ohio State, Alabama
Crystal Ball Leader: Miami -- 31%
Update: Hometown Alabama is coming up in the rear, getting one of his OVs but it appears to be a three-man race between the Bulls, Hurricanes and Buckeyes. Miami is the CB leader but a strong push in the end from USF is not out of the question, especially if they decide to cut their losses with other targets and zero in on Green as a running back/receiver hybrid.

CB Chuck Jennings [CB #1]: 6'0", 192lbs | Canyon Lake, TX | 5-star
Official Visits: USF (week 6), Oklahoma (week 7), LSU (week 11), Kansas State (week 12)
Projected Top Three: USF, Kansas State, LSU
Crystal Ball Leader: USF -- 97%
Update: USF turned the corner after the official visit, going from a good contender for Jennings' services to the clear cut winner and has continued to extend that lead by remaining in constant contact with Jennings. They're trying to get him to enroll early in January which would recruit him to commit and sign during the early period. He still has visits to LSU and Kansas State lined up but barring any surprises, Jennings is expected to be a Bull.

WR Will Green [WR #2]: 6'4", 197lbs | Miami, FL | 5-star
Official Visits: USF (week 6), Miami (week 8), Ole Miss (week 11)
Projected Top Two: USF, Miami
Crystal Ball Leader: USF -- 85%
Update: How many top receivers have the Malcolm Francois', both Sr. and Jr., have zeroed in on and struck out on? Add the south Florida connection and it's a huge success rate which is expected to be the case with Green. He still has a visit from Ole Miss left but after his official visit to Miami didn't go well, it's been USF's ball game.

LB Travis Thomas [OLB #1]: 6'0", 234lbs | Dolton, IL | 4-star
Official Visits: USF (week 13)
Projected Top Three: Unknown
Crystal Ball Leader: USF -- 100%
Update: Follow the visits and the only visit on Thomas' calendar this year was an unofficial one to USF in the summer and an official one later this fall. Expect Thomas to commit during his visit.

DE Luke Cason [DE #8]: 6'3", 273lbs | Monrovia, CA | 4-star
Official Visits: Missouri (week 6), USF (week 13), Oregon (week 14)
Projected Top Two: USF, Oregon
Crystal Ball Leader: Oregon -- 55%
Update: The commitment of four-star defensive end Jordan Odom and defensive tackle Russ Bailey really slowed down USF's pursuit of Cason which has picked up recently but the manage might have already been done, allowing Oregon to catch up and surpass them with an easier path to playing time available for Cason who might end up being a defensive tackle at the next level, a position USF is loaded at with young talent.

G Eric Johnson [G #2]: 6'1", 302lbs | Miami, FL | 4-star
Official Visits: USF (week 6), Miami (week 8), Florida (week 10), FIU (week 12), Florida State (week 14)
Projected Top Eight: Miami, FIU, USF, Kansas State, Virginia, Alabama, Florida, Florida State
Crystal Ball Leader: FIU -- 43%
Update: The Golden Panthers have recently gained steam on the Hurricanes while USF remains a threat. It might be too little to late for Florida which got him on a visit and if he had any left, Alabama or Virginia could be a bigger threat but for now, the top players to watch are the Bulls, Hurricanes and surprisingly the Panthers.

G Dennis Woods [G #4]: 6'4", 321lbs | Mission, TX | 4-star
Official Visits: USF (week 6), BYU (week 9), Ole Miss (week 11), Penn State (week 12), Florida State (week 14)
Projected Top Six: BYU, USF, Florida State, Miami, Ole Miss, Penn State
Crystal Ball Leader: Ole Miss -- 44%
Update: BYU's been the leader for a while but Ole Miss is coming strong recently, so is Florida State. Where do the Bulls fit in? Tough to tell until Woods wraps up his visits which go up to right before the start of the recruiting dead period.

S Alex Griffith [S #12]: 6'0", 218lbs | St. Simons, GA | 3-star
Official Visits: USF (week 6), Florida (week 10), Ohio (week 11)
Projected Top Three: USF, Florida, Ohio
Crystal Ball Leader: USF -- 100%
Update: A late push by Florida doesn't appear to be enough to knock Griffith off of USF who is expected to commit at any time now.

P Vince Baker [P #2]: 6'2", 199lbs | River Ridge, LA | 3-star | LSU, Texas, USF
Official Visits: None
Projected Top Three: USF, LSU, Texas
Crystal Ball Leader: N/A
Update: Not much movement in Baker's recruitment although Texas, LSU and USF are in play.

T Steven Ham [T #69]: 6'2", 293lbs | Tampa, FL | 3-star
Official Visits: USF (week 14)
Projected Top Two: USF, Missouri
Crystal Ball Leader: USF -- 100%
Update: A late addition to their board, USF should be able to land this local prospect with much ease.

USF's defense gets another blue chipper as four-star LB Thomas commits to Bulls
Eddie Fernandez -- 247 Sports USF Insider

Four-star Chicago area linebacker Travis Thomas has committed to the South Florida Bulls over Miami, Ole Miss, Florida State and Alabama. While the latter four schools had hats on the table, it was USF's race the entire time during his recruitment, having only unofficially visited the Bulls this past summer and only had one official visit scheduled this fall as well, also to Tampa.

Thomas is a star running back for his high school football team, similar to former USF linebacker Mark Johnson who was a two-way player in high school that got more recognition as a running back but was recruited as a linebacker. Johnson had a bit more length at six-foot-two compared to the six-feet Thomas but their measurables are very similar with Johnson being two tenths of a second faster than Thomas in the 40-yard dash (4.56 vs. 4.58) but Thomas is a bit more powerful with better strength testing numbers, which include an impressive 630lb max on the squat rack.

Thomas joins five-star linebacker Anderson in the class as well as four-star corner Jeremy Daniels, four-star safety Fred Harris and four star defensive linemen Jordan Odom and Russ Bailey in what is a loaded class on the defensive end.

More talent could be on the way in the form of five-star cornerback Chuck Jennings, who now has a 100% Crystal Ball prediction to USF following his visit to LSU which was described as "underwhelming" according to a source.

USF currently has the fifth ranked recruiting class in the country according to 247 Sports despite only having eight players committed, the only one in the top fifteen with less than 10 recruits.

Seminoles hang though early but are no match for USF Bulls
After winning eight games last season, many thought Mike Bloomgren would be the one to turn around a struggling Florida State program and while that certainly hasn't been the case this season, opening the game with a lead and entering half time trailing by just one point was a welcomed sign for Florida State fans against the in-state Bulls.

By the end of the game, it was the same old, same old with USF beating Florida State by two scores and cruising to a 36-22 win over the Seminoles behind another five touchdown performance from true freshman quarterback Jeff Jones.

Jones finished the day with 375 yards passing and no turnovers after throwing five interceptions in the lost to Washington State in their last game. He found tight end Matthew Smith twice in the corner of the endzone in the first half before completing touchdown passes to Max McDonald, Bryan Mangum and Marques Iosefo. Jones leads the NCAA in passing yards by more than a thousand yards with 4,562 yards passing and 41 touchdowns, needing just 21 yards to beat Jed White's single-season yardage record and five more touchdowns to tie his single season passing touchdown record.
