2019 USF Bulls football preview: Can Bulls replace the formidable trio of Charles, Drew & Bell on the left?
Cooper Byrd -- Dynasty Sports Staff Writer

For the past three seasons, USF Bulls fans and coaches have known that when the ball is kicked off and the offense takes the field, Darren Charles will be at left tackle, to the right of him will be Derrick Drew and at center will be Maurice Bell.

Bell and Charles graduated and now they must replace that stronghold. Drew kicks out to left tackle as a redshirt senior to help shore up an offensive line that has a lot of questions mark.

A look at USF’s offensive line situation:

Projected depth chart
LT - #68 Derrick Drew, Rs Sr. :: #72 Nic Haynes, Rs So.
LG - #79 Brian Brown, Rs Jr.
C - #74 Kenny Brantley, Rs Sr. :: #65 Jamie Babcock, Rs Fr.
RG - #69 Victor Tucker, So. :: #64 Maurice Williams, Rs Fr.
RT - #73 Isaac Gutierrez, RS Sr. :: #76 Quinton Payne, RS Jr.

Expected starters:
#68 Derrick Drew, Rs Sr. | 6'2", 318lbs | 90 ovr, 92 pbk, 90 rbk, 89 str
#79 Brian Brown, Rs Jr. | 6'0", 324lbs | 78 ovr, 85 pbk, 86 rbk, 79 str
#74 Kenny Brantley, Rs Sr. | 6'2", 304lbs | 83 ovr, 88 pbk, 85 rbk, 80 str
#69 Victor Tucker, So. | 6'4", 318lbs | 78 ovr, 85 pbk, 85 rbk, 81 str
#73 Isaac Gutierrez, Rs Sr. | 6'3", 331lbs | 82 ovr, 86 pbk, 88 rbk, 82 str

Major storyline: Moving Drew to left tackle gives the Bulls two seasoned players at tackle in Drew and Gutierrez, a senior who is now a two-year starter. Tucker was having a good freshman season before his injury and Brantley, while unproven, is a fifth year senior that's played behind a very talented player in Bell. The cupboard is not empty for the Bulls, just unproven as a unit.

2019 USF Bulls football preview: Some new -- and familiar -- faces to man the new look defensive line for the Bulls
Cooper Byrd -- Dynasty Sports Staff Writer

USF got a lot of production out of transfer Lance Carroll and former linebacker Gary Prince in their lone season as a duo at defensive end. USF is hoping to catch a similar lightning in a bottle by moving last year's starting inside linebacker back to defensive end and starting a true freshman in Chuck Sanders opposite of him.

Hooper's measurables have always been insane, even when he was a freshman as a former high school running back at six-foot-one and pushing 260 pounds. He's now up to 276 pounds and simply out grew the linebacker position he played last season.

He was good, tallying 48 tackles but returns to the position where he had just 11 tackles and three sacks in two seasons due to team need.

A look at USF’s defensive line situation:

Projected depth chart
DE - #12 Fred Hooper, Sr. :: #95 Bryan Walker, Rs Sr. :: #41 Chris Allen, Jr.
DT - #93 Jamey Little, Sr. :: #98 Anton Tate, Rs Sr. :: #90 Ben Jennings, Rs So.
DT - #14 E.J. Newsome, Fr. :: #96 Ben Woodard, Rs So. :: #94 Justin Barry, Rs Fr.
DE - #9 Chuck Sanders, Fr. :: #97 Mark Hawkins, So. :: #91 Derrick Farris, Fr. :: #98 John Mansfield, Fr.

Expected starters:
#12 Fred Hooper, Sr. | 6'1", 276lbs | 79 ovr, 86 spd, 95 acc, 75 str, 78 fmv, 68 bsh
#93 Jamey Little, Sr. | 5'11", 297lbs | 83 ovr, 64 spd, 68 acc, 86 str, 93 pmv, 82 fmv, 85 bsh
#14 E.J. Newsome, So. | 6'3", 271lbs | 77 ovr, 68 spd, 80 acc, 81 str, 74 pmv, 78 fmv, 74 bsh
#9 Chuck Sanders, Fr. | 6'3", 246lbs | 75 ovr, 75 spd, 72 acc, 80 str, 84 fmv, 72 bsh

Major storyline: Just how good is Sanders going to be? He was all the rave coming out of the spring as the team tried to find him a position. He could play defensive line or linebacker but ultimately, the team settled in on defensive end. To start as a true freshman at the line of scrimmage is a tall task, will he be up for it?

2019 USF Bulls football preview: Richardson ready to man and lead the defense as a fourth-year starter
Cooper Byrd -- Dynasty Sports Staff Writer

USF linebacker Shelton Richardson has played a ton of football, starting every game he was healthy for since he was a true freshman back in 2016.

The Butkus Award winner will be the unquestioned leader of the defense and also one of two returning starters at linebacker along with Mark Bennett. The new comer is a very talented true freshman, similar to Richardson, in linebacker Scott Stewart.

A look at USF’s linebacker situation:

Projected depth chart
WILL - #7 Shelton Richardson, Sr. :: #52 Matt Thompson, Rs Sr. :: #44 James Tucker, Jr. :: #51 Nate Clark, Fr. :: #57 Matt Stewart, Rs Fr.
MIKE - #54 Scott Stewart, Fr. :: #50 Derek O'Neill, Rs Jr. :: #56 John Jacobs, Rs So.
SAM - #58 Mark Bennett, Rs Jr. :: #42 Albert Young, Rs So. :: #55 Rob Matthews, Rs Jr. :: #59 Ryan Fletcher, Rs Fr. :: #53 Stephen Hill, Fr.

Expected starters:
#7 Shelton Richardson, Sr. | 6'1", 220lbs | 90 ovr, 87 spd, 98 acc, 84 tkl, 89 bsh, 81 zcv
#54 Scott Stewart, Fr. | 6'3", 246lbs | 78 ovr, 79 spd, 87 acc, 82 tkl, 80 bsh, 85 hit power
#58 Mark Bennett, Rs Jr. | 6'1", 240lbs | 81 ovr, 83 spd, 99 acc, 76 tkl, 87 bsh, 74 zcv

Major storyline: The athleticism at the position jumps out, especially on the outside in Richardson and Bennett. Richardson really excelled last season when he was allowed to play off the line of scrimmage more and expect a big year from Bennett as well.

2019 USF Bulls football preview: All aboard the Marcus Hines hype train?
Cooper Byrd -- Dynasty Sports Staff Writer

Back in 2016, the duo of Zac White and Dan Johnson came in with so much hype as five-star players. Marcus Hines might be matching that hype train.

Hines was a complete stud in the spring and immediately locked up that #2 corner spot behind Bradley Bentley who had five interceptions last season. When Hines gets beat in practice, it's a big deal because it doesn't happen that after. With legit world-class speed and the moxie to match, Hines certainly seems like he's going to be the vocal leader of a secondary that lost a ton of senior leadership.

A look at USF’s defensive back situation:

Projected depth chart
CB - #2 Bradley Bentley, Jr. :: #24 Ben Lewis, Fr.
CB - #22 Marcus Hines, Fr. :: #19 Michael Walker, So.
NICKEL - #21 Michael Bush, Jr.
S - #3 Trey Davis, So. :: #23 Carl Rodriguez, Jr.
S - #5 Chip Bryant, So. :: #37 Mike Clark, Sr.

Expected starters:
CB #2 Bradley Bentley, Jr. | 6'2", 173lbs | 80 ovr, 92 spd, 91 acc, 86 mcv, 87 zcv
CB #22 Marcus Hines, Fr. | 6'2", 175lbs | 79 ovr, 96 spd, 90 acc, 87 mcv, 85 zcv
NICKEL #21 Michael Bush, Jr. | 6'1", 173lbs | 78 ovr, 94 spd, 85 acc, 85 mcv, 89 zcv
S #3 Trey Davis, So. | 6'1", 188lbs | 85 ovr, 90 spd, 90 acc, 70 tkl, 91 mcv, 90 zcv
S #5 Chip Bryant, So. | 5'11", 181lbs | 83 ovr, 90 spd, 89 acc, 82 tkl, 74 mcv, 79 zcv

Major storyline: There is a lot of potential in this defense with two sophomores at safety that were studs as freshman and a breakout sophomore in Bentley who is now a junior and Hines. This secondary could be very, very good next season.

Bulls open the 2020 recruiting cycle with commitments from position of needs
Eddie Fernandez -- 247 Sports USF Insider

While nothing will top Marcus Hines committing at the start of the season, USF fans should be excited as the 2020 recruiting cycle got off to a fast start for the Bulls.

They were able to land commitments from three in-state players in three-star tight end Martin Rushing, three-star linebacker Montrell Jennings and two-star fullback Terrance Holland.

Holland is the younger brother of current Bulls tight end/fullback Robert Holland. The younger sibling is of similar built as Holland at six-foot-one and 250 pound and projects to be a hybrid like his brother.

Rushing gives the Bulls their fourth tight end commit in three years as they continue to stack the position while Jennings is an athletic linebacker that joins a very deep and young group.
