Phased.

Maybe USF wouldn't be losing multiple games a season if they didn't get rid of that dude.

Bulls defense dominates SEC Championship Game as USF trounces Rebels
They say that revenge is a dish best served cold. For USF and head coach Malcolm Francois Sr, they prefer serving it in the Mercedes-Benz Dome with a side of the SEC Championship trophy.

USF intercepted Ole Miss quarterback Travis Barnett six times, returning three of them for touchdowns and outscoring the Ole Miss offense themselves in the 58-14 routing of the Rebels to win the SEC on Saturday afternoon.

Ole Miss fans had plenty of good times poking fun at Francois Sr's comments after the Bulls loss to the Rebels earlier this season, calling him salty for his quote of "Congratulations to them, that was a big win for that program, probably their biggest in the last decade."

Ole Miss head coach Tom Herman had said after the game that he "wasn't sure what that's about" but that he'd accept Francois' congratulations anyway. It was Herman who was left congratulating Francois Sr. after the game with the Rebels BCS National Championship hopes gone.

Heisman hopeful Doug Fitzpatrick rushed for over 100 yards but failed to get into the endzone after scoring six touchdowns in the previous game against the Bulls.

It was an up and down game for USF quarterback Jeff Jones who threw three interceptions, including two in the redzone. But he still managed to throw for 426 yards and four touchdowns, breaking Jed White's record for most passing touchdowns in the season with his second touchdown of the game which was his 47th of the season.

USC QB Michael Jones becomes first Trojan to win the award since Reggie Bush
Jessica West -- SI.com

USC redshirt senior quarterback Michael Jones took home the Heisman Trophy on Saturday night, ending the Trojans drought of nearly three decades since they last won college football's most prestigious honor.

Jones beat out Ole Miss running back Doug Fitzpatrick and Air Force quarterback Darrell Edwards for the honor.

In his third season as a starter for the Trojans, Jones threw for over 3,000 yards and nearly rushed for 1,000 yards and had 44 total touchdowns on the season. The Idaho native led USC to a Fiesta Bowl appearance and a 10-2 record.

The Trojan signal caller is the rare Heisman winner who did not collect any of other major awards. Jones was not even a finalist for the Maxwell Award which was given to Florida Atlantic quarterback J.R. Evans nor for the Walter Camp, which Fitzpatrick won or for the Davey O'Brien, given to the nation's top passer. USF true freshman Jeff Jones won that award.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------
CFB Awards
Heisman: QB Michael Jones (USC): 197 of 333, 3107 yards, 31 touchdowns, 11 interceptions, 175 carries, 911 yards, 12 touchdowns.
Maxwell: QB J.R. Evans (Florida Atlantic): 216 of 352, 3234 yards, 184 carries, 936 yards, 47 total touchdowns.
Walter Camp: HB Doug Fitzpatrick (Ole Miss): 296 carries, 2117 yards, 21 touchdowns.
Bednarik: CB Seth Brooks (Coastal Carolina): 35 tackles, 4 tackles for loss, 2 forced fumbles, 10 interceptions.
Nagurski: LB Darrell Brown (Ole Miss): 101 tackles, 20 tackles for loss, 4 sacks, 3 forced fumbles, interception.

USF continues to prepare for Wildcats as Outback Bowl approaches
Anthony Washington -- The Tampa Bay Chronicles

USF head coach Malcolm Francois Sr. has had an interest few weeks with the media, starting with him cutting a press conference short after the UCF game when he had told reporters before the press conference that he would only be answering football questions and was promptly asked about The Tampa Bay Chronicles report and former USF receiver Andrew Rivas comment on the program's approach to pain medications and injections.

Francois Sr. was all smiles during media day for the Outback Bowl, turning down any non-football questions and instead was extremely complimentary of his football team and their ability to bounce back from losses to Ole Miss and Washington State to still finish with a chance to win a NY6 bowl and potentially finish in the top three of the final AP rankings.

Some other notes from media day and practices:

  • Injury does throw wrinkle into tight end Matthew Smith's draft decision
Starting junior tight end Matthew Smith is one of many draft eligible players on the Bulls roster, specifically on offense, that have a decision to make. Smith's decision was thrown for a loop when he broke his fibula in the third quarter of the SEC Championship Game.

Smith had surgery on that leg and he expects to be back on the field by next August which puts into jeopardy his draft status as he'd be unable to workout for any teams and as a six-foot tight end that would need to impress teams as a pure receiver for the next level, that doesn't bode well for his chances to get drafted which were slim to begin with.

I've spoken with many close to Smith and they all expect him to back in 2034 as a member of the Bulls.

The same can't be said for juniors CB Damien Ford and WR Max McDonald who could potentially be day one or day two picks. They've both been at all of the bowl practices and USF is expecting them to be on the field against Northwestern although we have seen in the past Francois Sr. opt to rest some of his better players late in bowl games to avoid injuries.

  • Bulls brass not shying away from setting record with true freshman QB Jones
USF true freshman quarterback Jeff Jones needs 238 yards to break Kliff Kingsbury's 30-year old record for most passing yards in a single season.

"We'll try to get it by halftime," said Francois Sr. of the record, "We're not going to be coy about it, we want it for Jeff [Jones], the team, the program, it'd be an honor for all of us and especially for Jeff as a true freshman to accomplish this in his first season."

Robert Givens also needs just 44 yards to pass the 1,000-yard mark which would give USF three receivers with over 1,000-yards receiving in the same season for the first time in over two decades.

Francois Sr. and offensive coordinator Malcolm Francois Jr. have mentioned wanting to get some of the younger guys on the field, particularly receivers Buck Duckett (6 receptions, 29 yards, 2 touchdowns) and Kevin Morris (7 receptions, 81 yards, touchdown).

  • Francois Jr. interviewed for Kentucky head coach opening
In his one season as a full-time play caller, Francois Jr. has rewriting passing records with a true freshman QB. It stands to reason that other teams have come knocking with Kentucky being the first to interview the young OC.

Francois Sr. was candid on giving his son and play caller the 'blessing' to potentially move on.

"Obviously we want him back but he's proven to be a hell of a recruiter, hell of a receivers coach and this year, we saw what he can do a play caller so he's in high demand and that means I did a great job as a father and a head coach so no qualms on my end about it. I want him to be wanted and I want him to take the best job available for him and his family."

Iowa State is also rumored to be interested in Francois Jr.

  • Five-star running back Bobby Jackson frequent visitor at bowl practices
A two-hour ride hasn't stopped five-star running back Bobby Jackson from showing up early and often to USF's practices during the past few weeks.

Jackson, who is from Lehigh Acres and considering USF or Ole Miss, is among the top uncommitted players and has been spotted at USF's practice quite a few times. Jackson is expected to announce in February on National Signing Day but his noticeable presence in Tampa and around the practices on his own dime has certainly given Bulls fans hope that they'll be handle to land the talented running back.
