Bulls legacy and top 120 recruit Joey Bailey commits to Bulls over Canes, Noles
Eddie Fernandez -- 247 Sports USF Insider

Carrollwood Day safety Joey Bailey has committed to the University of South Florida, the same school that his father Tavarious Bailey played at for four seasons under head coach Malcolm Francois Sr.

Bailey is the fifth ranked safety in the class and the 117th ranked player in the country, becoming the first member of the Bulls 2037 class when he picked them over Miami and Florida State.

Similar to his father, Bailey is a physical safety that is not afraid to initiate contact both in run support and in coverage. At this point in their development, Joey is probably a bit more advanced and skilled in coverage than his father was coming out of high school and overall a better player. Tavarious was a four-year contributor at USF but never a starter as he played behind Dan Johnson.

Bailey was part of a surprise group of recruits that took official visits last weekend. The list included five-star running back William Sapp, who the Bulls coaching staff have zeroed in on as their top back this cycle over Sam Nicholson and Eric Valentine who they previously shown interest in. On campus were also four-star tight ened Maurice McIntyre, four-star tackle Kyle Everett and four-star center Matt Callahan.

Another legacy jumps aboard as five-star RB William Sapp commits to Bulls
Eddie Fernandez -- 247 Sports USF Insider

Five-star running back William Sapp announced via social media that he has committed to his father's alma matter, the University of South Florida.

Sapp's father is Franklin Sapp who played with the Bulls from 2016 through 2018 and left USF as the all-time leader in receiving yards as well as the record holder for most receiving yards in a season.

A bit thicker than his father at five-foot-eleven and 191 pounds, Sapp is just as impressive of a track athlete, running the 100-meter in 10.66 seconds as a junior. Sapp played receiver, like his father, earlier in his playing career before making the transition to running back once he arrived at Oxbridge Academy where he scored 41 touchdowns as a sophomore, earning him a five-star ranking.

There are questions about the level of competition Sapp played at Oxbridge, a private college preparatory school that plays at the lower level of high school football of Palm Beach County. He's still learning the position as well but the physical tools are there for Sapp to be a potential early impact player although he just might not be on the same level as other five-star running backs USF has landed in the past such as Bobby Jackson and Travis Henry who were instant star players.

USF was previously recruiting Sapp to be part of a three-headed monster that also featured five-star running backs Sam Nicholson and Eric Valentine but lately, USF hasn't been as involved in Nicholson's recruitment but are still interested in pairing Sapp with Valentine. While they have similar build, Valentine is more of a power runner than Sapp.

#4 USF (5-0, 5-0) | 0 | 14 | 21 | 14 || 49
ALA (4-1, 3-1) | 3 | 17 | 0 | 8 || 28
-----------------------------------------------

Tampa is buzzing following a 49-28 win over No. 2 Alabama
Since replacing an injured Mark Herring as a redshirt sophomore, Alabama's Will Tate has been one of the better quarterbacks in the SEC. The final hurdle for the senior was the South Florida Bulls, throwing six interceptions to just two touchdowns in his two starts against USF.

Through two quarters, Tate seemed prime to exorcise those demons as he was causing fits for USF's defense using both his arm and surprisingly his legs but in the second half, those demons and USF's defense would prevail, intercepting Tate three times to beat the Tide 49-28.

A 56-yard completion with less than 17 seconds left in the first half after Chris Wallace and the Bulls had just scored helped set up Tate's second touchdown of the game, an eight-yard scamper to give Alabama the 20-14 lead heading into halftime.

They wouldn't score again until the 5:55 mark in the fourth quarter while for Joey Spence and the Bulls offense, they were just getting started. Bobby Jackson's fumble at the five-yard line was recovered by rookie receiver Maurice Bennett in the endzone to give USF the lead.

After one of Tate's three second half interceptions, Spence found Wallace for his third touchdown of the game. It was Wallace's first game back from injury and would prove to be a productive one with the Mackey Award winner catching ten passes for 104 yards and four touchdowns.

The Bulls closed the third quarter with another Spence touchdown, this time to Derek Young, and opened the fourth quarter with Spence's fifth touchdown of the game and Wallace's fourth.

Making his first start against Alabama, Spence was intercepted three times, twice in the second half and both times in plus-territory but his six touchdowns and 456 yards passing more than made up for it.

USF was also able to get their offense going in the second half thanks to their running game with Bobby Jackson rushing for 203 yards.

#2 USF (6-0, 5-0) | 0 | 14 | 21 | 0 || 35
#12 PSU (3-2, 2-0) | 7 | 10 | 7 | 8 || 32

USF's close call against Penn State improves their record to 6-0
USF sophomore cornerback Kenny Fowler has always wanted to play big time football growing up in New Jersey and knew that in order to accomplish his dream, he'd likely need to leave not only his home state but likely the entire region.

When he committed to the University of South Florida over Alabama and Texas, he did so with the intention of playing in big times games and making big time plays.

Every time USF needed one on Saturday afternoon, it was Fowler who delivered, returning two interceptions for a touchdown and making a pivotal stop in the fourth quarter to completed the 35-32 comeback win over Penn State.

Down 14-0, Fowler intercepted Greg Bishop from 22-yards out and returned it for a touchdown to keep the game from getting out of hand. The Nittany Lions responded with a strong drive, getting the ball back to the USF one-yard line but back to back stops in the backfield on designated quarterback runs would force Penn State to settle for a field goal with 30 seconds left in the game.

It was 28 seconds too much as Joey Spence completed back to back completions to Bobby Jackson for a gain of 26-yards before completing a 14-yard completion to Derek Young to set up the 36-yard heave to Jason McDowell down the field. Penn State defended the pass too well, deflecting it right into McDowell's hands in the endzone for the touchdown with two seconds left in the game.

Spence opened the second half with a quick dump off to Dionte McCarthy who took it 24-yards with blockers for the touchdown and the lead. Both teams then swapped touchdowns before Bishop was once again intercepted by Fowler who returned it for a touchdown and the two possession lead.

Penn State's defense made it interesting in the fourth quarter, shutting USF's offense out to give Bishop a second chance after his four-yard touchdown to Matt Carter and the successful two point conversion made it a three-point game with 6:45 left in the game.

The Nittany Lions would turn it over on downs two times to give USF the win.
