USF's first official visit weekend shows clear focus on the offensive line
Eddie Fernandez -- 247 Sports USF Insider

USF will be hosting three prized recruits this weekend in offensive tackle Blake Mitchell, center Jasper Nobles and guard Kyle Walton.

The offensive line has been an area of focus for USF with three-star Josh Henry already on board as one of the team's three commitments. The Bulls will be pushing hard for Nobles, the Tampa native, to commit and never make it to his four other official visits at Miami, Alabama, Ohio State and Oregon. USF is viewed as the betting favorite currently with Alabama and Oregon not too far behind them.

For Walton, USF is looking to make a solid impression on the USC lean who has a late season visit scheduled to visit the Trojans where he camped at during the summer and took an unofficial visit during the spring. He's also scheduled to visit Texas, Ole Miss and Boston College in what will likely be a very lengthy recruiting process.

USF is the only official visit on the calendar for Mitchell whose other offers are from FIU and South Carolina. With just six scholarship offensive linemen on the roster currently and two of them being draft eligible, USF is looking to sign anywhere from five to seven guys along that unit to replenish their depth and they view Mitchell as a project and a solid addition to their two deep down the line.

The Bulls are set to host four-star offensive tackle Sam Jefferson in two weeks and are pushing to get offensive tackle Kyle Wilson in the boat as well that weekend. Five-star guard Nick Ryan, perhaps the top prospect on their board overall, is also rumored to be in town that weekend as well.

USF fans are still feeling the pains of a 48-27 loss in Tampa to Stanford
Through a half and two series, everything was going right for USF in their second clash against a top-two ranked team, just three games into the season.

The defense had forced Stanford's offense to go three and out to begin the second half and already up 20-10, they seemed poise to extend their lead after completions of 23 yards and 18 yards place them in the red area. USF quarterback Mark Cunningham would throw his first of three interceptions and four total turnovers, beginning the avalanche that resulted in Stanford rallying back for the 48-27 victory in Tampa on Saturday afternoon.

Following the one-yard score by Stanford aided with the interception, Cunningham would fumble the ball on a botched option play, giving Stanford the ball once more already in the redzone where they cashed in, taking the four point lead on Bryce Nash's touchdown.

The struggles continued for Cunningham who was sacked on the first play of the ensuing drive and after a 15-yard run by Jacob Wheeler to make it third and manageable, Cunningham scrambled out of the pocket and was intercepted by Rory Wood once more.

USF's defense was able to force Stanford to settle for a field goal to make it 27-20 but Robert Wood would be on the receiving end of yet another Cunningham pass just two plays later, returning it for a touchdown to begin the rout.

The Bulls offense got it going once more, running ten straight run plays to get near the goal line but on 4th and goal, backup quarterback Rashad Woodard was unable to find an open receiver to turn it over on downs. Nash would rip off a 61-yard touchdown to put the nail in the coffin of USF's perfect season.

Where USF's recruiting stands after loss to Stanford during first big recruiting weekend
Eddie Fernandez -- 247 Sports USF Insider

USF hosted three top targets this past weekend in offensive linemen Jasper Nobles, Kyle Walton and Blake Mitchell. While they were unable to land a commitment from either, there was some positive buzz following the visit on where USF stands.

USC is still going to be really hard to beat for Walton, the Miami native who is scheduled to officially visit them at the end of the season but the Bulls made some great progress in his recruitment as Walton got the opportunity to sit down with USF's NIL department. Walton, who already has over 5,000 social media followers on both Twitter and Instagram, has stated in past interview that building his personal brand is important to him.

"Football is always going to be the main thing," Walton told 247 Sports back in March, "But having the business right is also important and making sure that you take care of your own brand because no one else is going to do it for you."

Los Angeles had been a big appeal for Walton so the question remains if Tampa had enough of a big city feel for Walton?

The staff particularly feels really good about where they stand with Nobles, the four-star center. They are trying to get the Tampa prospect back on campus for an unofficial visit in two weeks for a weekend that will also feature offensive tackles Sam Jefferson and Kyle Wilson and five-star guard Nick Ryan.

Offensive line coach Ryan Williams has been pushing to land the nation's top offensive line class and has shared that sentiment with recruits. If he's able to land Walton and Ryan at the guard spots, Nobles as the center and a combination of Jefferson and Wilson at the tackle spots, it's hard to imagine a better class in the country.

Cornerback Thomas Felder, tight end Joe Wilson, receiver Frank Paris, defensive end John Potts, safety Mike Mason and defensive tackle Brent Craft are all scheduled to be at USF that weekend as well for their official visits.

Bulls land verbal commitment from 'NFL ready' defensive end John Potts
Eddie Fernandez -- 247 Sports USF Insider

USF has been no stranger to IMG Academy, landing plenty of top talent over the years out of the Bradenton area prep school and they can add one more to the list in defensive end John Potts, the five-star Nebraska native.

Potts, who is currently on his official visit to USF, committed on Friday night, picking the Bulls over Alabama. The nation's number two edge rusher, IMG Academy defensive coordinator Jordan Leach called Potts one of the program's best players in recent years.

"I think the only hard part about coaching someone like [Potts] is figuring out what to do with them," Potts told the media during IMG's combine last summer, "You can line him up inside, wide nine, off the ball, drop him into coverage so you can get a bit spoiled and a bit all over the place as a coach. There are aspects of his game that is already NFL ready and from a physical standpoint, he's there as well."

Potts has primarily played as a stand-up edge rusher at IMG but has plenty of strength to develop into a five-technique or play a similar role as current USF edge rusher Martellus Smith who sets the edge in USF's base 3-4 defense. Potts is a lot more further along as a pass rusher than Smith already so there's more potential of him being on the field in nickel and dime looks. Potts' motor does run hot and cold, especially when he's being double-teamed and gets frustrated. Nevertheless, he's an elite talent and adds another five-star to USF's improving recruiting class.

With eight other prospects on campus for their official visit, USF's recruiting class could continue to improve over the weekend as five-star guard Nick Ryan, Potts' teammate at IMG, is another big priority for the Bulls this weekend. They would love to land him along with five-star Texas receiver Frank Paris to establish the core of the class.

Bulls improve to 3-1 following a 38-14 win over Ohio State
In a rematch of last year's national championship, the Ohio State Buckeyes were live underdogs against the South Florida Bulls as many analyst once again predicted that USF's defense would struggle against Ohio State's triple option, which has historically given USF's defenses fits over the years.

Even with two early fumbles from USF's Jacob Wheeler, including one that setup one of Ohio State's two touchdowns on the day, the Buckeyes were unable to keep it competitive, losing 38-14 on Saturday during USF's Homecoming Weekend.

Jimmy Smiths' struggles from last year's national championship continued with the quarterback completing 8 of 13 passes for 74 yards and an interception. He was also held to just 1.8 yards per carry on the ground and outside of two long runs by fullback Keith Harris (10 carries, 146 yards), the Buckeyes running attack was kept in relative check, averaging 3.5 yards per carry.

Offensively, the bye week worked wonders for USF's offense with Mark Cunningham throwing for 269 yards and a touchdown along with an interception after turning the ball over four times in the lost against Stanford. Cunningham's leadership came through early in the game as Wheeler's fumbles ended the first two possession of the game, gifting Ohio State the lead due to the short field.

"He told me to keep my head up and keep going," Wheeler said of Cunningham's words to him on the sidelines, "We all make mistakes, he made some last game and that we're a unit and we win or lose as a team, don't need to put any more pressure on myself."

Wheeler finished the game with 154 yards and two touchdowns and Kellen Wright also rushed for 95 yards. Another Tampa native in Scott Price contributed as well with 90 yards on six receptions. The team's leading receiver was Jeff Rutledge, catching 5 passes for 121 yards and a touchdown along with a fourth down conversion in the second half. Rutledge's 70-yard touchdown reception in the second quarter helped shift the momentum of the game.

Unlike the previous two games, there wasn't much of backup quarterback Rashad Woodard being deployed as a runner with the freshman quarterback playing just two snaps.

USF, Ryan Williams continues hot streak on the recruiting trail with commitment from offensive tackle Kyle Wilson
Eddie Fernandez -- 247 Sports USF Insider

USF offensive line coach Ryan Williams was widely criticized for his lack of recruiting last season in his first year with the program leaving the Bulls with just six scholarships offensive linemen heading into the 2041 season. Williams has now landed another offensive line prospect in Kyle Wilson with potentially more on the way.

Wilson, the 20th ranked offensive tackle in this cycle, picked the Bulls over an impressive list of schools despite his three-star ranking with interest from Georgia Tech, Stanford, Purdue and Penn State. Listed at six-foot-seven and 275 pounds, Wilson is the kind of moldable clay that offensive line coaches look for in lesser ranked prospects.

Wilson is a good athlete for his size that will need to work on his pass blocking to ever be a Champions Division caliber offensive tackle but has the physical traits, strength and demeanor that should bode well for his development.

USF is looking to add another offensive tackle in Georgia's Sam Jefferson who was also on campus this past weekend and is viewed internally as USF's top target at the position.
