Francois Sr. back at practice, expected to finish out season as Bulls head coach
Anthony Washington -- The Tampa Bay Chronicles

USF head coach Malcolm Francois Sr. returned to practice on Sunday and when he spoke with the media on Tuesday, confirmed that he will be coaching the team for at least the rest of the season.

"I'm the head coach of this football team," Francois Sr. responded when asked about his future with the program following a slew of reports regarding misconduct within the football program which led to athletic director Michael Kelly stepping down last week, "Until they tell me otherwise, I'm going to keep showing up for work."

According to a source, school officials decided to table discussions regarding Francois Sr's status as head coach until after the season. There were some preliminary discussions, as first reported by myself, regarding a potential suspension of Francois Sr. but when these plans were discussed with Francois Sr, he expressed that he would rather step down immediately than be suspended.

The Bulls, despite the scandal surrounding them, are undefeated and ranked in the top three of the AP and Coaches poll. There were concerns around the university and athletic department that Francois Sr.'s departure could lead to a mass exodus of players, coaches and recruits. USF is currently projected by 247Sports Class Forecast to have the number one recruiting class in the country.

I was told directly by a high-ranking official at the university that USF doesn't want to "end up like UCF", the school's chief rival that was once the Bulls' peer but since 2023, have yet to win more than eight games in a single season and have gone through several head coaches and regime changes across the entire athletic department. In the same time span, USF has won less than ten games just once and won three national championships with two Heisman winners.

The same official said that while optimistic that Francois Sr. does finish out this season as USF's head coach, they also expressed concern regarding his future beyond this season.

"The feeling in the building is that they can't not suspend [Francois Sr.] or impose some sort of punishment on him," said the source, "But suspending him likely means he's going to leave and if a top job, especially in state, where to come available, he might even leave without the suspension."

Another possibility is that Francois Sr. steps down from coaching and joins his son, Malcolm Francois Jr., at Kentucky as a special advisor. A different source told me that even prior to this season, Francois Sr. had always discussed with those around him wanting to serve an advisory role to his son once he got an head coaching job, it was always just assumed that it'd be at USF once Francois Sr. retired.

Francois Sr. turns 56 this January.

#2 USF (5-0, 4-0) | 7 | 10| 10 | 6 || 33

Alabama is unhappy with their poor showing against USF as Bulls improve to 5-0
Following a bye week and uncertainty surrounding the program's future, football was once again at the forefront for the USF Bulls and head coach Malcolm Francois Sr. which they passed with flying colors despite a rocky start.

Alabama's Rashad Smith had over 100-yards rushing in the first quarter but it wasn't enough as Jeff Jones and the Bulls were able to rally back to beat the Crimson Tide 33-21 on Saturday in rainy Tuscaloosa.

Smith finished with 223 yards rushing but Alabama's offense went scoreless for two quarters as Will Tate completed just 56 percent of his passes for 163 yards with the bulk of his yards coming in the second half when the team was forced to throw it.

Tate's 22-yard touchdown pass with 6:27 left in the game did make it a one possession lead for USF but the Bulls had no problem going down and scoring to extend their lead back to twelve. Tate would throw his second interception of the day, at the goal-line, to put any chances of a miraculous comeback to bed.
