2016 USF Bulls football preview: True freshman linebacker Richardson all the rave coming out training camp
Cooper Byrd -- Dynasty Sports Staff Writer
USF lost two starters at inside linebacker and another starter at outside linebacker, leaving the core with just one returning player in Jeffrey Reese. Enter three-star linebacer Shelton Richardson who has been called the steal of class. Add in some fourth year players in Nigel Harris and Mitchell Wright and the position doesn't appear bleak after all.
A look at USF’s linebacker situation:
Projected depth chart
SAM - #7 Shelton Richardson, Fr. :: #43 Jason Cannon, Sr. :: #55 Rob Matthews, Fr.
MIKE - #51 Nigel Harris, Rs Jr. :: #50 Derek O'Neill, Fr.
WILL - #49 Mitchell Wright, Rs Jr. :: #58 Mark Bennett, Fr.
BUCK - #54 Jeffrey Reese, Jr. :: #22 Gary Prince, Rs So. :: #52 Matt Thompson, So.
Expected starters:
#7 Shelton Richardson, Fr. | 6'1", 220lbs | 75 ovr, 83 spd, 92 acc, 77 tkl, 77 bsh, 74 zcv
#51 Nigel Harris, Rs Jr. | 6'1", 206lbs | 81 ovr, 86 spd, 88 acc, 79 tkl, 80 bsh, 77 zcv
#49 Mitchell Wright, Rs Jr. | 6'3", 217lbs | 80 ovr, 81 spd, 86 acc, 84 tkl, 70 bsh, 79 zcv
#54 Jeffrey Reese, Jr. | 6'2", 242lbs | 74 ovr, 88 spd, 84 acc, 77 tkl, 83 bsh, 70 zcv
Major storyline: The Bulls will be fielding a lot of speed at the position but lack a true elite pass rusher and are also extremely undersized. Reese is the only player over 221 pounds and while this might be an issue in years past, the AAC has been a breeding ground for spread offenses which should be to the advantage of the Bulls defense.

2016 USF Bulls football preview: Wilkerson looking to improve draft status while Johnson looking to have impact freshman season
Cooper Byrd -- Dynasty Sports Staff Writer
Redshirt junior Reggie Wilkerson briefly considered going pro after just one season at USF where he recorded five interceptions. Wilkerson and Lamar Robins return at corner with Robins being a fourth year starter while Wilkerson is going to get some NFL looks.
All of this before we even get to true freshman Dan Johnson, the five-star safety out of Georgia and then there's also junior Antwan Shaw who had two interceptions as a freshman and then failed to record a stat as a sophomore with Wilkerson's addition.
A look at USF’s defensive back situation:
Projected depth chart
CB - #8 Reggie Wilkerson, Rs Jr. :: #27 Brandon Simmons, So.
CB - #28 Lamar Robins, Sr. :: #17 Brett Johnson, So.
NICKEL - #21 Nate Godwin, Sr. :: #3 Antwan Shaw, Jr.
S - #2 Dan Johnson, Fr. :: #26 Leonard Lilly, Rs So.
S - #20 Trevon Griffin, Rs Sr. :: #18 Tavarious Bailey, Jr. :: #37 Mike Clark, Fr.
Expected starters:
#8 Reggie Wilkerson, Rs Jr | 5'11", 172lbs | 91 ovr, 94 spd, 94 acc, 99 mcv, 97 zcv, 91 press
#28 Lamar Robins, Sr. | 6'3", 189lbs | 91 ovr, 94 spd, 92 acc, 96 mcv, 93 zcv, 94 press
#21 Nate Godwin, Sr. | 6'0", 191lbs | 81 ovr, 91 spd, 89 acc, 86 mcv, 82 zcv, 87 press OR #3 Antwan Shaw, Jr. | 6'1", 172lbs | 78 ovr, 94 spd, 85 acc, 86 mcv, 90 zcv, 73 press
#2 Dan Johnson, Fr. | 6'0", 204lbs | 75 ovr, 93 spd, 92 acc, 84 tkl, 66 mcv, 67 zcv, 75 hit power
#20 Trevon Griffin, Rs Sr. | 6'0", 204lbs | 82 ovr, 86 spd, 82 acc, 79 tkl, 75 mcv, 80 zcv, 80 hit power
Major storyline: There is a lot of hype surrounding Johnson, can he live up to it?
