NFL Reinstates Williams, Will Serve Six-Game Suspension
Image
July 30, 2007

DAVIE, Fla. -- Good news hits the beaches of Miami as NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell and his board of medical advisors have decided to reconsider their ban on Ricky Williams following his appeal on July 15.

On February 26, 2006, the NFL announced Williams had his fourth violation of the league's drug policy and was suspended for the entirety of the 2006 season. He made the jump from American football to Canadian football during the '06 year, playing for the Toronto Argonauts. A move that is now barred by the CFL to prevent more suspended players using it as a bypass.

Williams' 2007 season in the NFL was certainly in doubt, especially when an anonymous report dropped in mid-May that he had failed another drug test. Attorney and player rep David Cornwell, however, presented a case to the league officials that swayed their decision to postpone the reinstatement potential all the way into September. Cornwell and Williams prepared their appeal for the middle of July.

"I know that I have changed," Williams relayed in a brief response to the decision. "I saw my career almost drown before me. I had to make a change."

In accordance with his reinstatement, Williams will still serve a six-game suspension during the regular season before he can resume play. He also will be subject to more random drug tests.

New Dolphins head coach Cam Cameron had kept pretty quiet on the Ricky Williams situation but has since spoken on it since the news of his reinstatement.

"I want to see where he is, and also let him know where we're headed, and we'll go from there," Cameron said.

With a refreshed and hopefully healthy Williams, the Dolphins could put out the fiercest running back room in the league with the additions of rookie tailback Lorenzo Booker and free-agent acquisition Jesse Chatman.

Tough first loss, but you hung in there.

Good that you'll get a nice, mid-season acquisition in Ricky Williams.

Ricky will help a lot. Just need Cameron to call more run plays during games to get our backs going.

Week 1 in Review
Image
September 12, 2007

DAVIE Fla. -- Cam Cameron addresses some key aspects of last week's game and the Phins' upcoming match-up with the Dallas Cowboys.

On the lack of touches for starting running back Ronnie Brown
"The pace of the game kinda dictated we push the ball down the field more than hand it off. We probably got away from the run too soon in the second half. We'll try to stray less from the gameplan."

On the play of the defensive backs
"I thought the defense as a whole played pretty well. We got beat on that jump ball to Cooley, but I don't think there are any glaring issues that are on our defense."

On Trent Green's first game as a Dolphin
"The stat line doesn't tell the full story. He was poised and I saw him make some really good reads. The pick was under-thrown but we were pushing the ball trying to get back in the game. I like where we are with Trent."

Keys to victory against the Cowboys
"Wade [Phillips] and I spent a lot of time with each other off the field in San Diego last season, and we're both excited about our new opportunities. He's gonna have them really sound and disciplined on defense. I think we have better trench game defensively so if we can win the line of scrimmage we'll do really well. They have a stud in Terrell Owens that we'll have to be wary of, and we gotta stop Barber and Jones. And of course, we need to produce offensively."
