Ronnie Brown Skips OTAs, Minicamps
Image
Star Runningback is at Odds with Cam Cameron
DAVIE, Fla - The relationship between Cam Cameron and star tailback Ronnie Brown has never been perfect. Early last season, Brown called out Cameron for his pass-happy playcalling. Cameron conceded, began featuring the run, and the team started to see some production.

Brown has now missed every OTA and minicamp so far, and the organization and fans alike are wondering if he will show up for training camp. There has been radio silence from Brown's camp, and several wonders if he formally requests a trade. Cameron spoke to the media yesterday about the situation.

"I personally had not spoken to him since before the draft," head coach Cam Cameron told reporters. "I know Randy [Mueller] had talked to him more recently than that, but I hope he knows he needs to be here."

The lack of communication from the starting tailback that posted 1,653 yards from scrimmage and 8 total touchdowns last season is concerning. His continued absence could drastically affect the development of this offense.

Terry Robiskie Promoted to Offensive Coordinator

Cam Cameron Hands Playcalling Duties to Receivers Coach Robiskie
DAVIE, Fla - Head coach Cam Cameron made his name in this league as a great offensive coach and play-caller. He spent last season working as head coach and offensive coordinator for the Dolphins but has now decided to delegate the role to wide receivers coach Terry Robiskie.

Robiskie joined the staff with Cameron last season after working for the Cleveland Browns in the same capacity. Before that, he was Cleveland's offensive coordinator and interim head coach from 2001-2004. In 2007, he helped a young Dolphins receiving corps develop, namely the explosive rookie season from Ted Ginn.

Cameron was complimentary of Robiskie, a coach he has known for the past decade. "I trust Terry, and this allows me to continue refining myself as a head coach." As the Dolphins are looking at having a new, young starter at quarterback, this is a noteworthy move who needs to find a rhythm with their new offensive coordinator.

2008 Miami Dolphins 90-Man Training Camp Roster
Image
90-Man Roster and Notes
POS|NUMBER|NAME|COLLEGE|AGE|EXPERIENCE
QB|#5|Matt Ryan|Boston College|22|R
-Despite Cameron's early criticisms, Ryan has seemingly impressed throughout minicamps and is slated as #2 on the unofficial depth chart. Good start for the first-round steal.
QB|#9|John Beck|BYU|27|1 year
-It's been underwhelming for Beck this offseason, and he has quickly fallen behind Ryan and Smith in the quarterback battle. He'll need to use training camp and the preseason to regain some ground.
QB|#10|Shaun King|Tulane|31|7 years
-King is an interesting piece in this QB mix. Without him, this is one of the youngest, most inexperienced QB rooms in the league. While he isn't in the QB1 running per se, his veteran presence may push out one of the other competitors if they don't win the job.
QB|#11|Alex Smith|Utah|24|3 years
-Smith has meshed well in Cameron's offense so far and has the lead on the QB job. With Ryan's selection, Miami is likely not Smith's last stop, but he has a chance to rebuild his stock with solid play this season. Should he win the job, that is.
QB|#12|Chris Leak|Florida|23|1 year
-Leak was signed to a futures contract at the end of the season. And against the odds, he has hung around this offseason. Still, he's a longshot to make the team, and reps will be hard to come by as the last man on the depth chart. He's a good, developmental practice squad QB.
HB|#20|Lorenzo Booker|Florida State|24|1 year
HB|#23|Ronnie Brown|Auburn|25|3 years
-The tension between Brown and Cameron has seemingly died down, and Brown is expected to be present for training camp. This offense needs him, to say the least.
HB|#27|DeDe Dorsey|Lindenwood|24|2 years
HB|#33|Kregg Lumpkin|Georgia|22|R (UDFA)
-Lumpkin's college career at Georgia was hampered by injuries and sharing carries in a crowded running back room. He never had exposure but has the talent to make this roster.
HB|#34|Ricky Williams|Texas|31|7 years
HB|#35|Samkon Gado|Liberty|24|3 years
FB|#45|Reagan Mauia|Hawaii|24|1 year
FB|#82|Casey FitzSimmons|Carroll College|26|5 years
WR|#16|DeSean Jackson|California|22|R
-Another speedster receiver to pair with Ted Ginn and Berrian. He's worked hard to gain some weight this offseason, his lack thereof affecting his draft stock.
WR|#19|Ted Ginn|Ohio State|Ohio State|23|1 year
-Ginn was 2007's AFC offensive rookie of the year, racking up 910 yards and nine touchdowns and a kick return touchdown. He's looking to build upon that in 2008.
WR|#80|Bernard Berrian|Fresno State|26|4 years
-After four seasons in Chicago, Berrian signed with the Dolphins in free agency and will likely be the #1 target with Marty Booker getting older. He finished 2007 with 80 catches, 821 yards, and four touchdowns.
WR|#81|Danny Amendola|Texas Tech|23|R (UDFA)
-Texas Tech product Amendola was signed immediately following the draft and has impressed so far in minicamps. Keep an eye on him during the preseason to make a push to make the roster.
WR|#82|Derek Hagan|Arizona State|24|2 years
WR|#85|Brandon Lloyd|Illinois|27|5 years
WR|#86|Marty Booker|UL Monroe|32|9 years
WR|#87|Jonathan Orr|Wisconsin|25|2 years
WR|#89|Lance Long|Mississippi State|22|R (UDFA)
TE|#80|Stephen Alexander|Oklahoma|33|10 years
TE|#84|Kellen Davis|Michigan State|23|R
TE|#86|Jeff King|Virginia Tech|24|2 years
TE|#87|Justin Peelle|Oregon|29|6 years
TE|#88|David Martin|Tennessee|29|7 years
OT|#70|L.J. Shelton|East Michigan|32|9 years
OT|#72|Vernon Carey|Miami|27|4 years
-Carey has been underwhelming during his tenure in Miami, and he needs to up his play in this contract year.
OT|#74|Michael Otto|Purdue|25|1 year
OT|#75|Mark LeVoir|Notre Dame|26|2 years
OT|#77|Charles Spencer|Pittsburgh|2 years
OT|#79|Terrance Pennington|New Mexico|2 years
G|#61|Chad Rinehart|Northen Iowa|23|R
G|#65|D'Anthony Batiste|UL Lafayette|28|2 years
G|#66|Will Montgomery|Virginia Tech|25|2 years
G|#67|Joe Toledo|Washington|24|2 years
G|#70|Brandon Albert|Virginia|23|R (UDFA)
-Albert should have gotten drafted, but some unfortunate rumors tanked his draft stock. He's going to be a great addition to the offensive line.
G|#76|Chris Liewienski|Indiana|33|10 years
G|#77|Drew Mormino|Central Michigan|24|10 years
C|#63|Dan Connolly|Southeastern Missouri State|26|3 years
C|#64|Samson Satele|Hawaii|23|1 year
C|#73|Gene Mruczkowski|Purdue|28|5 years
DT|#78|Ethan Kelley|Baylor|28|5 years
-Kelley reported overweight and has now earned the ire of Cam Cameron and his staff. We will see if he can turn this around before the preseason ends.
DT|#90|Isaac Sopoaga|Hawaii|27|4 years
DT|#94|Cedric Woodard|Texas|31|7 years
DT|#96|Paul Soliai|Utah|24|1 year
DT|#90|Rodrique Wright|Texas|24|2 years
DE|#92|Marcellus Wiley|Columbia|33|11 years
-Wiley is on his last legs, and after an underwhelming season in Jacksonville, it should be interesting to see if he makes the roster.
DE|#93|Bobby McCray|Florida|27|4 years
DE|#95|Chris Wilson|Oklahoma|1 year
DE|#98|Matt Roth|Iowa|24|3 years
-Roth stepped up last season with nine sacks. New defensive coordinator George Edwards has raved about his improvements this offseason.
DE|#97|Rob Ninkovich|Purdue|24|2 years
DE|#98|Quentin Moses|Georiga|24|1 year
DE|#99|Jason Taylor|Akron|34|11 years
-Taylor, now 34, has his lowest sack total since 1999 last year with just 8. He has been a mentor this offseason to the younger pass rushers.
OLB|#50|Jamie Winborn|Vanderbilt|29|7 years
OLB|#52|Keyaron Fox|Georgia Tech|26|4 years
OLB|#52|Channing Crowder|Florida|24|3 years
-Crowder is ready to take over as leader of this defense with Porter, Thomas, and Taylor on their way out of football. He is in a contract year, and the front office seems pretty invested in keeping him around.
OLB|#55|Joey Porter|Colorado State|31|9 years
OLB|#55|Darryl Blackstock|Virginia|25|3 years
OLB|#56|Jon Alston|Stanford|25|2 years
OLB|#58|Pierre Woods|Michigan|26|2 years
MLB|#53|Kelvin Smith|Syracuse|24|1 year
MLB|#54|Zach Thomas|Texas Tech|35|12 years
MLB|#50|Curtis Lofton|Oklahoma|21|R
-Cameron and Edwards are expecting big things from Lofton as he will step in place of veteran Zach Thomas when he retires.
-Zach Thomas has been a staple of this franchise since 1996 and has seen plenty of ups and downs in his career here. 2007 was one of his finest seasons, getting a career-high eight sacks. This is his last season, and when asked if there was anything that could keep him around, his response was simple: "If we make it to the AFC championship and don't win, I'll come back to get that damn ring."
MLB|#54|Jo-Lonn Dunbar|Boston College|22|R (UDFA)
MLB|#57|Chase Blackburn|Akron|25|3 years
CB|#20|Benny Sapp|Northern Iowa|27|4 years
CB|#21|Andre Goodman|South Carolina|30|6 years
CB|#25|Will Allen|Syracuse|30|7 years
CB|#26|Michael Lehan|Minnesota|26|4 years
CB|#28|Rashad Barksdale|Albany|24|1 year
CB|#29|Travis Daniels|LSU|25|3 years
-Daniels burst on the scene with four interceptions and a pro bowl selection last year. He now will be expected to hold down the fort as the number one corner.
CB|#34|Von Hutchins|Ole Miss|25|3 years
CB|#36|Fred Thomas|Tennessee-Martin|34|12 years
CB|#45|Kyle Arrington|Hofstra|22|R (UDFA)
FS|#22|Thomas DeCoud|California|23|R
FS|#24|Renaldo Hill|Michigan State|28|7 years
FS|#32|Jason Allen|Tennessee|25|2 years
FS|#38|Matt Ware|UCLA|24|4 years
FS|#39|C.J. Wallace|Washington|23|1 year
SS|#44|Marquand Manuel|Florida|29|6 years
SS|#44|Cameron Worrell|Fresno State|27|4 years
SS|#49|Matt Giordano|California|24|3 years
SS|#43|Jason Simmons|Arizona State|32|10 years
K|#2|Matt Prater|UCF|23|2 years
K|#3|Jay Feely|Michigan|32|7 years
-Feely's first year in Miami wasn't ideal, as he finished 71% on his field goals. The competition brought in is real, and he is far from guaranteed a roster spot.
K|#7|Justin Medlock|UCLA|1 year
P|#4|Brandon Fields|Michigan State|24|1 year
-Fields is one of the bright special teams stars in the league and is looking to improve on his 2007 pro bowl season.
P|#4|Derrick Frost|Northern Iowa|26|5 years

This offense should be legit, I'm pretty excited.

I'm not certain about moving Smith after what I sent to get him. It's more likely that we move Beck somewhere and hold on to Smith for at least this 2008 season. These preseason game will give us the indication on what that QB room looks like, Matt Ryan might not be Matty Ice quite yet.

Dealing with a file issue at the moment (game gets finicky when you put 90 guys on the roster) but I think I'm close to resolving it. Ready for season 2 :curtain:
