Kicker Prater Trades Number with Matt Ryan

Matt and Matt Make a Deal
Boston College just handed Matt Ryan #12, and when he got to Miami, he kind of just fell into #5. But Ryan has known since he graduated from William Penn, he wanted to come back to #2. This time, the only thing standing in his way was a young kicker the team added before the draft.

Matt Prater is an interesting, second-year kicker that worked with the Phins during last season's training camp before losing out on the kicking job to Jay Feely. When Feely was struggling midway through the season, Cam Cameron brought him back for a workout and eventually signed him to the practice squad. Prater then signed a future deal with the team at the season's conclusion. Thus far in minicamps, he has impressed.

"It was a pretty simple conversation," Prater led with to media. "I told him, 'beat at a game of 21, one-on-one, and it's yours."

It apparently did not go Prater's way.

"He kicked my ass; he clearly wanted it more than I did."

Head coach Cam Cameron was not amused by this exhibition, and he denounced his players goofing around and risking injury before the season starts.

"We might have to start monitoring these guys on their days off," Cameron remarked to media the other day.
