Trent Green Ruled Out for Week 5

October 1, 2007

DAVIE Fla. -- The Miami Dolphins will be running out a new quarterback under center when they travel to Houston with Trent Green being ruled out for the week.

"He's having a tough time with shoulder mobility," said coach Cameron to the media after the team's first win. "We're gonna shut him down until he's full-go."

Green left Sunday's game after taking a rough hit from Kirk Morrison after releasing a pass. He left the field with medical staff and subsequently returned to the sideline without his pads. The offense was inefficient with Green at the helm during this game; he left the game with just over 50% of his passes completed and one interception.

In somewhat of a surprising move, Cam Cameron inserted rookie second-round pick John Beck to replace Green the following drive instead of listed second-string quarterback Cleo Lemon. Beck took control of the offense and further secured Miami's win with two touchdowns to fellow rookie Ted Ginn.

Cameron has yet to officially name a starter for the game in Houston, citing that both Lemon and Beck offer solid opportunities to win. Cleo Lemon is pretty familiar with Cameron's system, especially since it was the first NFL system he learned; Lemon got his first shot with the Chargers in 2003 and remained on the roster behind Drew Brees and Phillip Rivers at the behest of Cam Cameron. Lemon's brief appearances in 2006 earned him a chance to compete for the starting job this training camp.

"Both guys are gonna take reps with the first-team offense, and I think we'll have our answer by the end of the week. We're gonna be solid."

Cameron Names Beck Week 5 Starter

DAVIE Fla. -- John Beck has received the nod from the coaching staff to strap up and run out on the field as QB1.

After week-long deliberation, Cam Cameron finally told the press today that the 26-year old second-round rookie out of BYU was going to make his first career start on Sunday in Houston.

"He's come a very long way from this summer," Cameron praised his young quarterback. "He's got a solid grip on the playbook, and his talent is evident. He's earned this shot."

The Dolphins selected Beck with the 40th overall pick in the second this past offseason, though they reportedly had a first-round grade on him, even ranked above Norte Dame's Brady Quinn. In college, was a star player for the Cougars and led them to their first bowl win since 1996 in a big win over Oregon. Scouts were very impressed by Beck, praising his solid mechanics, his intelligence on and off the field, and above-average athleticism that'll keep him clean in the pocket. There were concerns that the competition he faced in the MWC was subpar, but that could go for anyone. The Dolphins clearly saw a player that could be developed into something special.

And Beck has backed up this staff's support of him so far. In his two off-the-bench appearances, Beck has completed 80% of his passes and tossed three touchdowns. The flipside, of course, is that these have been small instances of his play. The big test is a full, professional game.

"I'm excited," Beck relayed to the media after practice. "Coach Cameron brought Cleo and me into the office and gave us the news, and honestly I feel so prepared."

Cameron seemed very certain about the decision. "He's gonna give everything he's got, and Cleo has been extremely supportive. But John is mature, I think a lot of people forget he's already 26."

When asked about Trent Green's eventual return, Cameron stated that they will evaluate the position week-to-week but are currently operating under the notion that Green is still the starter.

Week 4 in Review

September 26, 2007

DAVIE Fla. -- Cam Cameron spoke to the media about the team's first win and building momentum against the Texans.

On first win as an NFL head coach
"It's all about momentum now. We've proven we can get it done, now we have to prove consistency. And at the end of the day, we won't go winless."

On John Beck's first career start
"He's ready, I know Terry [Shea, QBs Coach] and I have the utmost faith in him. Trent and Cleo have been on his shoulders given him their guidance. We're going to let him get it done."

On defense's play of late
"The biggest thing is that we are forcing turnovers. That's crucial, and we gotta keep doing that if we're gonna keep winning games."

On Travis Daniels winning player of the week honors
"He absolutely deserves it! He has a great game, he's a stud for us. He's solid in coverage, and he's a special teams ace for us too."

Keys to victory against the Texans
"Andre Johnson, do I need to say more? We gotta be able to stop him and get them off the field on offense. They've been struggling on offense recently, but they have major 'boom' potential. Other than that, if we play our brand of football we'll cruise."

Huge win and a win over the Raiders! Good all around in my opinion. It's surprising to see your offense and defense both ranked in the top 10 considering your record.

Statistically, we are doing the right things. It's the ridiculous errors and breakdowns that are costing us games. Definitely the best worst team in the league

Didn't let Andre Johnson go off TOO badly, but that was one hell of an effort from Ronnie Brown.

The rookie QB did struggle, which is definitely expected.

We did better than expected on defense to me.

Ronnie's highlight play (aside from the 95-yard run) was on Beck's second interception. It should have been another pick-six but Brown caught the DB on the three-yard line, stripped the ball, and recovered it in the endzone for the touchback.
