Historical Accuracy Note: I have chosen to use 2013 as this is the original year of the game, and also the first year of Carleton Football after disbanding the program in 1998. As such, I will be referring to this on occasion, most notably surrounding the revival of the “Panda Game” rivalry with the University of Ottawa. Also, Carleton Basketball is the undisputed king of Canadian college hoops, winning 15 of the last 18 national championships. I’ve included this angle in my story arc, as you will often see fictional players I’ve added as “two sport athletes”, often pertaining to basketball.
Recruiting: Must target a minimum of 8 Canadian prospects each season. No recruits over 3* outside Canada until we win a major bowl game. (BCS, New Years Day, or Dec31) American 4* prospects will be allowed before this ONLY if they are: Pipeline or border state, Top3 interest, AND have only one Power5 school on their list. Any 5* prospect must have us ranked Top3 to start season to recruit them, unless from pipeline state then Top5. One note, I am allowing Texas as a pipeline state. The reason being that, as a created team, a large number of players are from TX, GA, PA, FL and CA so those are automatic pipelines. I’m intentionally avoiding those states until those players graduate, but my storyline includes being a former HS player and coach in Texas so I’ve allowed it for conceptual symmetry. And now...on with the show...
***PRESS CONFERENCE***
Ottawa, ONT, Canada
AD: The Carleton University Ravens athletic department is proud to announce the hiring of head coach Chris Weber. We considered many candidates, but we felt Coach Weber’s dual-citizenship and especially his ties to both New Jersey and Texas high school football, will be the key to our programs success for many years. Joining the new Can-Am conference also helped guide our decision, as we wanted a coach more familiar with traditional American 4-down football. His interest in returning to American football, as well as his record here in the CFL really made it a perfect fit for all of us. Now we turn things over to Coach Weber...
WEBER: Thank you AD Rock...Welcome everyone to a new day for Ravens Football! I’m excited to be taking over this team, and hope to restore the winning tradition of Carleton Athletics to the gridiron. We have a lot of athletes on this team and we’re going to use them. On this team your position is football player...that’s it. If you think you can make a play somewhere...speak up and say “Coach I got this one” and maybe you’ll get that chance. We have nowhere to go but up, and most of them are expecting the American teams to have their way with our division. We’re out to prove them wrong. We’re looking to win the CanAm championship and that’s our #1 goal. I’ve already talked to Freddie Williamson about joining us from the hardwood and playing some tightend or wide out...his big 6’10 frame could dominate the red zone. And we’re gonna toss that rock a lot. I’ve got a new system already to go that takes the high flying air raid of the CFL and puts it in the 11-man game...we’re calling it the Bird-Shot and y’all are gonna see some fireworks from it this year. Thanks everyone for coming and Go Ravens!!
