Steelers lose Rudolph to head injury for season
Brian Batko | August 20, 2020 8:45 pm ET

Ben Roethlisberger’s main backup and Pittsburgh’s QB2, Mason Rudolph, has been ruled out for the entire 2020-21 season – and possibly beyond.

Team officials report that Rudolph has suffered a severe concussion – and after much testing and going through the concussion protocol – doctors have deemed him ineligible to return this season.

“It’s a scary situation, and we’re all just praying for him and his family. Mason’s a great kid and I know he’ll be just fine,” says Steelers coach Mike Tomlin.

The 25-year old quarterback joins Detroit’s Kyle Van Noy (broken collarbone) and Dallas halfback Tony Pollard (broken tibia) as notable names who will be sidelined for the year.

Other Notable League Injuries
NO Michael Thomas, WR - 10 weeks (broken jaw)
NO Jameis Winston, QB - 8 weeks (torn bicep)
DAL La’el Collins, RT - 7 weeks (forearm fracture)
TB Shaquil Barrett, LB - 5 weeks (torn groin)

Steelers Injuries
Mason Rudolph, QB - Season (severe concussion)
Benny Snell Jr., HB - 3 weeks (strained knee)

I have a few ideas :hmm: ...have to see how the season plays out though. I do like Winston though and totally forgot he was backing up Drew this season, so he may be an option. Couple decent backups in the league actually, as well as some incoming prospects in the draft next year, so we'll see

Got NE in the season opener, so I'm waiting for some jersey updates if possible before launching that game.

Jesus, New Orleans got slapped early in the season with injuries.

Going to be interesting who you pick to backup Ben this season.

:yup: Big hit in NO with Thomas out.

Yeah now that Rudolph is done, I might need to make a deal.

Steelers to open on the road against new look Patriots
Luke McCafferty | September 4, 2020 12:52 pm ET

The Pittsburgh Steelers will open up their season Sunday night on national television against the Tom Brady-less Patriots in Foxboro.

With Cam Newton as their starter, it’s the first time in nearly 20 years that the Patriots will have a new face lining up under center to lead Bill Belichick's offensive attack .

Eyes are going to be all over Cam and Bill in this one, which could allow the Steelers to sweep in and steal an early season victory – even with the hometown crowd against them.

Ben Roethlisberger will return as the starter for Pittsburgh after missing 14 games last year due to an elbow injury. The 38-year old is not only going up against New England in this one, but he’ll be facing off with Father Time for the remainder of his career.

The Steelers averaged 18.1 points in 2019, good for 27th in the league, while the Patriots registered 26.3 (7th).

Odds: Patriots -6

Scouting Report
NE Cam Newton, QB: (2019, 2 GP) 572 yds, 0 TD, 1 Int
PIT Ben Roethlisberger, QB: (2019, 2 GP) 351 yds, 0 TD, 1 Int

NE Sony Michel, RB: (2019) 912 yds, 7 TD, 3.7 avg
