Atlanta squander away another 20+ point lead with Kamara scoring in the final seconds

Image

NEW ORLEANS, November 22 -- For the fourth time this season, the Atlanta Falcons have thrown away a large lead. With 19, 26 and 17 point leads over the Cowboys, Vikings and Broncos, one would think the Falcons would have done everything to ensure their lead wouldn't evaporate as they continuously find it difficult to shed their choking image after their Super Bowl loss to the New England Patriots. After all, Matt Ryan put on a vintage Matty-Ice display, having completed 17 of 19 for 251 yards by the time half-time rolled around, with the Falcons holding a 28-7 lead late in the midway through the second quarter.

Ah, then comebacks happen. Drew Brees completed 16 of his 21 passes in the second half to help the Saints mount a ferocious comeback, where they scored 17 points in the fourth quarter which saw Alvin Kamara screen out of the backfield and strut into the endzone with 37 seconds left with a 14 yard receiving touchdown. New Orleans improves to 8-2 in a game they should have lost. Latavius Murray was held to 33 yards off 10 carries and Alvin Kamara could fare no better, rushing for 23 yards off 9 carries, although he did have a rushing touchdown. The Saints were one dimensional in the second half but the Falcons had no answer to stop them. Kamara caught 9 passes for 98 yards and 3 touchdowns while Jared Cook caught 7 passes for 105 yards, most coming over the middle. Michael Thomas, who is still getting back to full health, caught 7 passes for 79 yards and a touchdown while Tre'Quan Smith and Emmanuel Sanders combined for 9 receptions for 105 yards. New Orleans may have one of the best teams in the league. After their defense showed up against the 49ers, their offense showed up against the Falcons when their defense went to sleep. Next week they face newly signed Colin Kaepernick and the Denver Broncos, who are coming off a 35-10 loss to the Miami Dolphins.

New Orleans wins eighth straight after turnover riddled fourth by Denver

Image

DENVER, November 29 -- The New Orleans Saints fought off an resurgent Denver Broncos, galvanized by the arrival of Colin Kaepernick, whose costly fourth quarter interception and last minute fumble sealed the game after what looked like an improbable victory was on the cards. Following a 25 yard defensive pass interference call against Janoris Jenkins on 3rd and 20 which moved the ball to the one yard line, Philip Lindsey capped off a 12 play, 76 yard drive with a one yard rushing touchdown on the opening drive of the game. New Orleans responded with their own touchdown drive, with Michael Thomas earning his second touchdown off the season on a 14 yard slant pass. On Denver’s second drive of the game the response wasn’t so good with Kaepernick overthrowing his intended receiver and into the hands of Janoris Jenkins, who ran it back to the one yard line before Kaepernick forced him out of bounds. Due to penalties and a bad screen pass, the Saints moved backwards instead of forwards and had to settle for a field goal, with Denver answering back with a field goal of their own as the second half came to a close with the scores tied, 10-10.

New Orleans came out explosive in the second half, with Michael Thomas catching back-to-back passes for a combined 28 yards coupled with Emmanuel Sanders end-around rush for 15 yards spurred on a five yard touchdown run by Michael Burton, to give them a 17-10 lead. The Broncos went three and out and the Saints moved the ball down the field again. Looking to seal the game early, Brees went deep for Alvin Kamara who came out of the backfield, only to get picked off at the 1 yard line. Denver’s response? A 17 play, 99 yard drive which culminated in a touchdown throw from Colin Kaepernick to tie up the game, 17-17 early in the fourth quarter.

New Orleans would respond with a five play drive, all runs. A 12 yard run by Kamara on their own 32 yard line, a 17 yard gash up the middle by Latavius Murray, followed by another 20 yard run up the middle by Murray before Alvin Kamara bounced to the outside for a 22 yard touchdown run to give the Saints the victory. For the second consecutive week, Kamara scored the game-winning touchdown.

Latavius Murray was cash for you that game. Way to pull out the victory on that one.

The running game decided to work in the fourth quarter. Kamara/Murray is a good combo
