The conference is going to be stacked this season.

Yea, losing everyone on offense is going to make it a struggle. The Akron game will hopefully give us a chance to play a few depth players and find out who is stepping up.

I felt the schedule was too easy last year. Might have gone a little too far the other way this time.

Gopher Reporter
Week 1: The hope of a new season
Hello and welcome to the first edition of my newest Gopher blog, a place to write about all things related to the Minnesota Golden Gophers. The quick notes, recruits, who to hate watch this week and anything else Golden Gopher related.
- 4 star freshman RT Robert Herndon won the starting position in spring ball. Coach Mick Smith specifically talked about the freshman this week in his radio interview. "Robert is going to fit in perfect up front. With a senior at center and a junior guard, he will have experience to lean on all around him. He's a big run blocker and will be a key force for us this season."
- On the other side of the ball, 4-star freshman linebacker Mitch Horan is also getting the start. Taking over for last years' captain Mavarick Baranowski, Horan will have big shoes to fill but he's up for it. "I came here to start right away and to play. I'm not going to sit on the bench and watch, this is my team and my defense now. We are ready to go."
- Dylan Wittke is expected to be the starting QB after finishing strong last season, but rumors are swirling about a QB battle with JUCO transfer AJ Brand stealing the show. Brand has more speed and is better on the move than Wittke but Wittke is a better pure passer all-around. Week 1 against Akron might give us a chance to see both in action and see what way Mick Smith is leaning.
- AJ Turner is set to start at running back after Darius Taylor went to the NFL. But who is the number 2 back is the question. Fame Ijeboi and Xavier Ford both redshirted last season and will each get carries to stake their claim as the second option.

I expect our record to be worse than last season but hopefully enough progression to make next year a big leap.

time to open the season with a solid win. Like others have said the next four weeks will be a gauntlet. Good luck!
