Rodrygo assigned No. 9 shirt upon arrival from Real Madrid
Brazilian star forward Rodrygo is officially a Tottenham Hotspur, appearing in a No. 9 jersey next to manager Kwamele Owusu as he arrived from Madrid on Wednesday and is expected to be available when the Spurs host Sunderland this Saturday.

Owusu was all smiles at Rodrygo's introductory press conference, calling the former Real Madrid attacker an integral part of his plans for this season and beyond.

"Rodrygo is a special, special player," Owusu said of the €100 million transfer, a club record, "We love what he brings to our team, how we're able to attack, the creativity that he brings and an understanding of what it takes to win at a high level."

The opening of the window also meant the arrival of fullback Valentin Barco, who the team agreed to terms with months ago. The two arrivals are also met with departures from Dejan Kulusevski (Arsenal), Dominic Solanke (Nottingham Forest), Richarlison (Manchester United) and Yves Bissouma (Latium). Youngsters Moussa Dubango (Genoa), Matty Chandler (Leicester) and Patrick Curtis (Bilgo) were also loaned out as well as Radu Dragusin heading to Real Betis on a loan with an option to buy.

The most notable and perhaps most impactful departure is that of João Palhinha, who had appeared in twenty-two games for the Spurs, as he returns to his parent club of Bayern Munich following the six-month loan.

Owusu added that the team will be active in the winter window but that a move isn't imminent.

"We'll have a look, of course, we'll have a look," the first-year manager said, "It has to make sense and if it does, we will not hesitate to improve the team."

That is a good-looking squad, might just need a better manager to piece it all together. It would be great if you could make Kolo Muani a permanent signing. He's a much better option than Tel.

Not yet, but that squad better finish top 4 or else he is going to be in trouble. Tottenham fans are not patient fans.

Rodrygo is a statement signing, are you planning to play him up top at striker? Feel like where he'd be really dangerous is LW, but you gave him the #9 so I'm curious.

He played the first game at LW and I plan to play him there primarily, maybe some spot ST in a pinch if Muani/Tel are unavailable. I gave him No. 9 because that's the number he was assigned automatically and the one that made the most sense as he wore No 9 at Santos and going back to 21 would be aura loss. The other attacking numbers (7, 10, 11) are taken already.
