USF players enjoying visit out west as Bulls desperate try to hang on to staff
Anthony Washington -- The Tampa Bay Chronicles

The South Florida Bulls are preparing to face off against the Washington State Cougars (6-6, 4-5) in the Kraft Fight Hunger Bowl but the real battle is happening behind the scenes.

For the second year in a row, USF head coach Malcolm Francois is among the top candidates for Power Five jobs such as the Auburn head coaching job. Last season, USF extended Francois' contract and was able to fend off other potential suitors but the likes of Missouri and Arkansas are vastly different than the Brinks truck that Auburn will able to back into Francois' new mansion in Alabama.

Even if they somehow keep Francois, USF will also be in a financial fight to keep the rest of the staff at bay. It wasn't long ago that USF defensive coordinator Marty English was fired from Colorado State and then fielded one of the nation's worst defense in his first season at USF but now, he's been linked to potential openings at Kentucky and Nevada.

Francois becomes highest paid Group of 5 coach following Auburn rumors
Cooper Byrd -- Dynasty Sports Staff Writer

University of South Florida football head coach Malcolm Francois has agreed to a contract extension, keeping the hot candidate with the program through the 2022 season.

His latest contract, which went into effect Jan. 1, 2016, and goes through Dec. 31, 2022, is worth a minimum of $22 million over the five-year period. This year, Francois is owed just over $4 million before bonuses and incentives.

With his latest contract, Francois becomes the highest paid Group of 5 coach, according to a database maintained by USA Today. The extension was able to keep Francois, who is 27-13 in his three seasons at USF, away from the Auburn job.
