Dortmund season preview • Rumours and news ahead of the 2019/20 campaign
bundesliga.com/borussia-dortmund/morningcoffee | August 15th, 2019

  • Gotze will start the season upfront • Dortmund manager Lucien Favre has informed local media his intention is to start Mario Gotze at striker ahead of their season opening clash against Augsburg with Erling Haaland on the bench. Favre has cited experience as the main catalyst behind the decision. Haaland is one of most touted young prospects in European football. At 19-years old, he's set to play a key role in the Dortmund squad, but just not now it seems.

  • Title commitments for Dortmund • In a press conference event preceding their debut match of the season against FC Augsburg, Borussia Dortmund's manager stated that his players are fully committed to challening the title. "All players are committed to becoming champions and will consider anything else a failure." he said.

  • Dortmund searching for a left back • Dortmund like their squad, but with every squad you can upgrade your positions. One name which has come up is FC Augsburg's Philip Max. Dortmund are expected to make a run at the left back in the 2020 summer transfer window. Borussia can expect to see him start at left back against them in the season opener.

  • Dortmund won't listen to offers for Jadon Sancho until after the winter transfer window • With a release clause of €120.7M, 18-year old Jadon Sancho is one of the hottest prospects in the world. Dortmund aren't willing to let the young British starlet go just yet, according to reports. You can expect Sancho to play a crucial role for Dortmund this season. According to reports, if a big club such as Barcelona or Real Madrid don't come calling, Sancho could remain at the club, his agent suggests.

  • Guerreiro sidelined for the start of the new campaign • Left back/midfielder Raphael Guerreiro has suffered a sprained knee injury and will be out for about 3 weeks, according to Dortmund's medical doctors. The Portuguese utility player will be replaced by Thorgan Hazard in the starting line-up.

FIFA on PC FTW... I've installed like 1,000 new faces (just look at Jadon Sancho's above)

Also enables me to ensure all german teams have likeness throughout

Weekly Rewind Round 01 • Dortmund come out as victors despite slow start and intense rain
bundesliga.com/borussia-dortmund/morningcoffee | August 19th, 2019

  • Gotze will start the season upfront • Dortmund manager Lucien Favre has informed local media his intention is to start Mario Gotze at striker ahead of their season opening clash against Augsburg with Erling Haaland on the bench. Favre has cited experience as the main catalyst behind the decision. Haaland is one of most touted young prospects in European football. At 19-years old, he's set to play a key role in the Dortmund squad, but just not now it seems.

  • Defence needs work • Lucien Favre wasn't happy with how the defence played. The lapse in concentration was evident and the performance by goalkeeper Roman Burki was poor. Favre sent out a warning post-game that performances will need to get better quickly before he makes changes to the starting line-up

  • Favre: Haaland will remain on the bench for now • Mario Gotze was silent during the game after his goal within the first five minutes of the game. Thorgan Hazard's brace saw Dortmund through a tough spell. His two second half goals gave Borussia the three points. Many in the organisation and the fanbase want Haaland to start but the manager has resisted calls to do so, so far.

  • Rain played a part in how slow Dortmund were • Dortmund didn't play particularly well against Augsburg, but that is more likely to do with the fact the pitch conditions were poor with torrential rain falling throughout the ninety minutes of action. Dortmund looked slow and their passing was off. Still, they managed to complete 83% of their passes.
