Joe Gomez Out 3 Months with MCL Tear

Image
The celebrations were cut short after Wolves victory at Old Trafford when the medical staff revealed the injury Gomez suffered during the match was a torn MCL. He will be out of action for the next three months, which is a major blow to Wolves' defense. Luckily, last year's starting RCB and former captain, Willy Boly, is available to step into Gomez's place. Wolves are unlikely to pursue the signing of an additional center-back this window for depth, so young academy graduate, Elliot Moore is expected to see some action as one of the backup center backs alongside Kortney Hause. Moore is a natural right-back, but with his 6'2 frame and natural defensive instincts, he is capable of playing centrally as well.

Wolves Take Ainsley Maitland-Niles from Arsenal

Image
Wolves have paid £11.5M to Arsenal to trigger the release clause of 23-year-old right-back Ainsley Maitland-Niles. Nuno has not been particularly impressed with the play of Matt Doherty this season and feels they need to upgrade to make a real challenge in the Champions League. Additionally, Elliot Moore has been bright, but at just 18 years old, isn't quite ready to be the full-time starter. Wolves now have three players capable of playing the position with Niles taking on the #2 shirt signifying he will be first-choice going forwards.
