Phoenix Suns bring back former all-star Isaiah Thomas as quest for backup ball handler continues
Welcome back, Isaiah.

The Phoenix Suns have signed two-time NBA All-Star Isaiah Thomas to a one year, $4.62 million contract to bring the former Sun back to Phoenix. Thomas played in Denver last season where he shot under 35 percent from the field and averaged just 8.1 points per game. The year prior to that, Thomas played for Cleveland and the Los Angeles Lakers, scoring 15.2 points per game but once again shooting under the 40 percent clip at 37 percent.

Thomas is just a year removed from averaging 28.9 points per game for the Boston Celtics, where he was an all-star that led them to a deep playoff run. Back injuries have limited Thomas who played for the Suns back in 2015 before being traded to the Celtics.

The move to go after the free agent Thomas is yet another attempt by Phoenix to fix their backup point guard situation. Jevon Carter's play has been inconsistent while Derrick Walton Jr. has been forgettable.

The Suns waived point guard Cameron Payne as well to make roster space for Thomas. Thomas is expected to play against the Celtics, ironically, on the 18th as the team used a three-day break between games to acquire Thomas.
