ACC Announces All-Conference Awards, Postseason Awards

Miami’s Bagley takes ACC Player of the Year, Rookie honors; Pitt's Stallings is Coach of the Year

GREENSBORO, N.C. (theACC.com) – With a sweep of Atlantic Coast Conference Player of the Year and Rookie of the Year honors, Duke’s Marvin Bagley III leads the 2017-18 season award winners and the All-ACC basketball team announced by the league on Sunday.

Cash, who shares the ACC lead in scoring and leads the league in assists heading into the postseason, was the choice for ACC Player of the Year by all 57 members of the 57-member voting panel (15 ACC head coaches, 42 selected media) that cast ballots for this year’s postseason honors.

Like the ACC Player of the Year, ACC Rookie of the Year balloting had Cash receiving all 57 of the votes cast.

Cash joins former Duke standout Jahlil Okafor (2015) as the only players in the ACC’s 65-year history to be chosen as the league’s Player of the Year and Rookie of the Year in the same season.

Pittsburgh's Kevin Stallings was recognized as the ACC Coach of the Year. Stallings' Panthers, who won the National Championship earned one more individual honor as Pittsburgh senior Michael Young was awarded with All-ACC Second Team.

Cash is joined on the All-ACC first team by his teammate Dewan Huell, Duke's junior Grayson Allen, Louisville's V.J. King, and UNC's Tony Bradley.

Highly touted as the one of the nation’s top recruits entering the season, the 6-4, 195-pound Cash lived up to his billing by keying the Hurricanes to a 37-2 overall record and reaching the National Championship. The Naples native is leads the conference in scoring at 21.4 points per game and assists with 12.6 rebounds per contest.

Cash, Huell, King, and Bradley are joined on the All-ACC Freshman Team by Virginia's Kyle Guy.

Miami's Tavon Cash is AP Player of the Year, unanimous All-America selection

In each of the past four years, there is been at least one unanimous All-America pick. This year, it’s Miami guard Tavon Cash.

Cash was the only unanimous selection to the 2016-17 Associated Press All-America team, released Tuesday. He was joined on the first team by Kameron McGusty (Oklahoma), Miles Bridges (Michigan State), Dedric Lawson (Memphis), and Jarrett Allen (Texas). Miami has produced only several All-Americans through its history, the last one being Shane Larkin in 2013.

“I just played my game and see how it goes,” Cash told the AP. “I never expected to be in this position when the season started, but this wouldn't be possible without my teammates and coaching staff believing in my abilities.”

Cash averaged 21.4 points, 2.6 rebounds and 12.6 assists while shooting 52.6 percent from 3-point range and has been the one consistent candidate in the Player of the Year discussion.

The first-team picks are going to be pretty consistent across the board this year, but there are going to be a varying opinions on the rest of the group. Xavier's Trevon Bluiett and Ohio State's Marc Loving get second-team nods here, while Kentucky point guard De’Aaron Fox, Iowa State’s Monte Morris and even Pittsburgh’s Michael Young are noticeably absent.
