Armon Johnson made it to the league, didn't he? A little streaky, but he's been putting in some work

Wolf Pack return to March Madness but receive tough draw in West Region
Jerry Howard -- Reno Gazette Journal Sports Writer

"We've got shooters."

It didn't take long for first-year head coach Isaiah Mohammed to realize that his Nevada Wolf Pack squad could shoot, particularly the trio of Armon Johnson, Ray Kraemer and Tyrone Hanson. It did take him a while to figure out the perfect way to use them and he figured it out just in time.

The Wolf Pack haven't lost in two months, winning thirteen straight game using a starting lineup of three shooters, a speedy true freshman point guard and a dominant center in JaVale McGee. The only question is will it be enough to get past the Arizona Wildcats?

Nevada is the eight seed but widely viewed as the underdogs against an Arizona team that has underperformed but are still dangerous, as are the Wolf Pack. They've got good guard play, good shooters and a center that can take a game over. Those are the recipe for upsets, the kind of upset that Nevada fans will be rooting for as they've found their new identity half way through the season as their head coach changed his.

Mohammed found success last season with the Howard Bison by playing a swarming style of defense that made it ugly and feisty with offense being optional. The Bison's offense was their defense with the occasional dump off into the low post and pick and roll action. Nevada had varying success using the same style of play but after a three-game losing streak, Mohammed switched it up.

Johnson shot ten threes and attempted nineteen shots in the next game as Nevada beat Boise State, going 13 of 31 from the three point line. The averaged over 20 three point attempts per game as a team for the rest of the season.

When the three point shot is falling, it's tough to beat Nevada. Will that be the case against Arizona?
