Patriots defensive struggles continue in loss to Eagles
New England has focused and spent a lot of their capital on strengthening their defense in the past three off-seasons, adding notable players such as Matthew Judon, Roger McCreary, Quinnen Williams, Jordan Poyer and Jaire Alexander to their defense.

Through the first two games of this season, they've allowed seventy-five points as New England fell to 0-2 following their 42-20 loss on Sunday afternoon at the hands of the Philadelphia Eagles.

The game broke open in the second half as following a missed kick to open the half, Miles Sanders broke through the A-gap for a 25-yard touchdown run to extend the lead to 21 points and Bobby Wagner broke it for good as he intercepted Mac Jones at the one-yard line and returned it 99-yards for the touchdown.

Another New England three-and-out would lead to Sanders' third touchdown of the day on a 67-yard catch and run from Jalen Hurts. Hurts finished the day 16 of 20 for 269 yards and two touchdowns. His Crimson Tide counterpart had the counting numbers with 346 yards passing but completed just 60 percent of his passes compared to Hurts' 80 percent and had a passer rating of 82.3 while Hurts finished the day with a near perfect 152.

"It's just the little things," said defensive captain Dont'a Hightower after the game, "We're missing a play here or there so we have to get back to the basics."

New England allowed 187 yards on the ground and seventeen first downs while not forcing a single turnover and allowing Philadelphia to convert sixty-one percent of their third downs.

New England pitches near shutout to halt losing streak, beat Giants 21-7
The season couldn't have gotten off to a worse start for New England and their pricey defense.

Against the New York Giants, they helped make it right, at least for one Sunday afternoon.

For three and a half quarters, the Patriots defense kept the lid on the Giants offense, shutting them out en route to a 21-7 victory over their Super Bowl rival to clinch their first win of the season.

Daniel Jones was sacked six times while Saquon Barkley was held to just 2.7 yards per carry as Quinnen Williams made his presence felt in his regular season debut as a Patriot. Williams had two sacks while Malcom Brown, Christian Barmore, Josh Uche and Deatrich Wise Jr. each had a sack apiece. Williams also stripped Jones on one of his sacks which was recovered by the offense.

It was a see-saw day for Mac Jones, who completed fifty percent of his passes and threw for just 224 yards and no touchdown with an interception. The interception came on a play where Jones escaped the pocket and had an open receiver but overthrew him in the endzone.

New England was able to stick with its running game against the Giants, rushing for 177 yards and dominated the time of possession.

Jones, Patriots rally falls short as Chiefs hang on to beat New England 38-33
It wasn't in the Super Bowl but down 38-13 entering the fourth quarter, Mac Jones did his best Tom Brady impression.

New England scored twenty unanswered points with all three being passing touchdowns from Jones before ultimately running out of time in the 38-33 loss to the Kansas City Chiefs on Sunday afternoon.

Kansas City jumped out to an early lead after Tyreek Hill took the first play of the game 75-yards following a touch pass on the jet sweep. Braxton Berrios fumbled the ensuing kickoff return which was recovered by Kansas City, who capitalized with Hill scoring his second touchdown of the day.

New England did make it competitive again in the first quarter with Rhamondre Stevenson breaking a 49-yard run but after being forced to settle for a field goal following a third-down drop by Kendrick Bourne, Kansas City went on another run, scoring seventeen points in three drives thank to back-to-back three and outs by New England.

Mahomes finished the game with 357 yards passing and five touchdowns. His one mistake, an interception, help put New England back in the game. New England had scored back to back touchdowns in the fourth quarter as Kansas City's offense tried to close the game out with their running game but were struggling. After the Jakobi Meyers touchdown to make it a two possession game with 5:12 remaining, Mahomes went deep to Hill who was intercepted by Jaire Alexander.

Jones found Parris Campbell for gains of 23 and 27 yards on the ensuing drive to setup the six-yard touchdown to Hunter Henry. New England failed to recover the onside kick with 1:13 left in the game and Kansas City was able to kneel the ball and close it out.
