The bookies think this one is a blowout, huh? I think Jacobs should be able to get a few good runs up the middle against LA. Maybe a little clock control and this one lands in your favor.

herbert bout to go 43/68 here

...
The corners played really well against Pittsburgh and Denver but struggled against Buffalo and I suspect a similar performance against the Chargers.

I use an Excel formula that factors in team ratings and performances as well as home/away splits and with the chargers being undefeated and highly ranked in all categories, it's definitely skewing towards that but I think we can keep it close if we can keep Jimmy G upright. I'm lowering the HUM QB ACC in this game so we'll see.

‣ NFL Week 4: Oct. 1, 2023 - SoFi Stadium, Inglewood, California
(2-1) Las Vegas Raiders at Los Angeles Chargers (3-0)

LV | 0 | 0 | 3 | 6 | 9
LAC | 3 | 10 | 0 | 6 | 19

Asante Samuel Jr's interception seals win for Chargers over AFC West rival Raiders
Justin Herbert, Keenan Allen, Austin Ekeler, Mike Williams, DaVante Adams, Josh Jacobs and Jimmy Garoppolo. Big time names on offense, twenty eight total points between both teams.

It was defense that ruled the day on Sunday as the Chargers defenses' interception of Garoppolo in the fourth quarter squashed any hopes of a second half comeback as the Chargers beat their AFC West rivals 19-9 to remain undefeated as they head into their bye week.

Both teams had splash plays in the first quarter with Herbert connecting with Williams for a 40-yard gain on the second play of the game but the drive stalled out and resulted in just a field goal. Garoppolo hooked up with Adams for a 28-yard pickup on the Raiders second offensive play but then also failed to get much going afterwards, going backwards before punting the football.

Adams would have another big play in the second quarter, this time for 65 yards to get the ball on the Chargers 22-yard line on 3rd and 12. Las Vegas would go for it on 4th and 1 three plays later from the four yard line but would be stopped behind the line of scrimmage to turn it over on downs. The Chargers capitalized with completions of 30 and 24 yards to Joshua Palmer and then a 29-yard pass to Gerald Everett on 3rd and 5 to set up Isaiah Spiller's touchdown.

Spiller saw heavy action in the first half as Ekeler nursed a shoulder injury, rushing for 24 yards on eight carries. Ekeler returned in the second half and finished the game with nine carries for 61 yards.

The Raiders would score a field goal to open up the second half, their first points of the game to make it a ten point game. Los Angeles appeared to be on their way to extend the lead once more following a 24-yard pickup by Ekeler but on first and goal from the three-yard line, Herbert would be intercepted by Robert Spillane in the endzone.

After swapping punts, the Raiders had their longest drive of the day, going on a thirteen play drive that included two third down conversions but once again settled for a field goal to make it 13-6 early in the fourth quarter. The Raiders defense continued to step up, forcing another punt and after a roughing the punter call against Los Angeles, the Raiders went on another long drive only for a sack on 2nd and 11 from the Chargers 30-yard line to halt all momentum and lead to a 51-yard field goal.

A missed kick and a three-and-out by the Chargers offense gave Las Vegas the perfect chance to take the lead with 5:05 remaining but on the third play of the drive, Asante Samuel Jr. finally got the best of Adams and Garoppolo, intercepting his pass and giving the Chargers prime field position which resulted in a field goal.

The Raiders would turn it over on downs on the next possession.

C.J. Stroud, Houston Texans Staring At Another Disappointing Season
The Houston Texans traded back into the first round in order to have not one but two top three picks in last spring's NFL Draft, drafting Ohio State's C.J. Stroud and Alabama's Will Anderson with the second and third overall pick in the 2023 NFL Draft. It was a bold and ambitious move by the Texans front office in an effort to turn the page on what has been a dark chapter for the franchise, starting with the Deshaun Watson saga.

The sun has yet to reveal itself as Houston is one of three teams, along with Green Bay and the LA Rams, that have yet to win a game this season. The Texans have had it worse than any of them, fielding the league's worst scoring offense by 18 points and have allowed the third most points on defense. Passing offense? Bottom five. Rushing offense? Bottom three.

It's been a tough start for the young quarterback as well with Stroud completing 62 percent of his passes but posting a 77.4 passer rating (worst in the NFL) while being sacked 13 times which is the second most behind only Russell Wilson.

Last Sunday, it was rock bottom for Stroud and the Texans as he completed just 12 of 22 passing attempts for 116 yards and an interception while being sacked six times against the Steelers. The offense put up just 177 yards of total offense in the 31-0 loss, picking up just eight first downs.

Davante Adams Downplays Grudge Match Against Former Team on Monday Night Football Clash
If the winless Green Bay Packers needed any more motivation for their Monday night game against the Las Vegas Raiders, Former Packers receiver Davante Adams -- now with the Raiders -- isn't giving it to them.

"I have nothing but love for Green Bay and their fans," Adams told reporters on Wednesday, "It was really about coming closer to home and being out on the West Coast again, it all made sense for me with everything that was going on."

Adams was traded in March of 2022 and signed a five-year deal with the Raiders that made him the NFL’s highest-paid receiver at the time. At the time, Adams cited the uncertainty of Aaron Rodgers' future as one of the reasons he decided to leave Green Bay, a concern that would be validated with Rodgers leaving Green Bay this past offseason.

With Rodgers no longer there and the Packers struggle, the storyline had already lost some of its sizzle and Adams has now dumped some water on there as well.

‣ Raiders to dress three interior offensive linemen on Monday following injury to Jordan Meredith
Las Vegas will be without one of their backup offensive lineman on Monday as backup guard Jordan Meredith suffered a shoulder strain in practice this week which will sideline him for at least a week.

While the Raiders still have some depth at tackle in backups Thayer Munford Jr. and Justin Herron, Meredith was the team's sole backup for any of the three interior spots, putting them in a tough predicament should starters Dylan Parham, Andre James and Greg Van Roten. While Munford and Herron could potentially play either guard spots, it would be quite concerning if center Andre James were to be sidelined.

‣ Chandler Jones mystery continues as Raiders elevate two practice squad pass rushers
Las Vegas has elevated practice squad players David Anenih and Janarius Robinson to their 53-man roster, releasing safety Isaiah Pola-Mao and linebacker Luke Masterson who are expected to join their practice squad after they clear waivers.

With the addition of Anenih and Robinson, the Raiders get some much needed depth at edge rush as they had been relying on just three bodies at that position in Maxx Crosby, rookie Tyree Wilson and Malcom Koonce as the team is still without veteran Chandler Jones. Jones has been absent from the team for over a month following a blowup on social media.

Through four games, Crosby and Wilson have played 255 and 254 snaps respectively, nearly 87 percent of the team's snaps on defense. By comparison, Crosby played an absurd 96 percent in 2022 but Jones played just 69 percent, much closer to where you would ideally want your elite pass rushers at.

‣ Raiders TE Coach Jerry Schuplinski hints at bigger role for rookie tight end
Second round pick Michael Mayer's NFL career has gotten off to a slow start, catching just three passes for 16 yards through four games. At Notre Dame, that was just a quarter of football for Mayer, finishing as their all-time receptions leader at tight end with 180.

Raiders tight ends coach Jerry Schuplinski was complimentary of Mayer, stating that he's done a good job in the running game and as Austin Hooper's backup, for now.

"[Mayer] has done everything we've asked for him," Schuplinski told the media on Monday when asked about Mayer's progress, "You load up more on their plate as they show you they can handle it and he has, with blocking and being [Hooper]'s backup so as we progress, he'll be entrusted with a bigger and bigger role and we'll go from there."

Hooper has seven catches on the season for 57 yards on 191 snaps compared to Mayer's 141.
