Drake Maye, Broncos offense shutout in loss to AFC West rival Raiders
Raiders rookie receiver Tory Horton was a solid receiver at the University of Nevada but it wasn't until an eventful night in Bolder against the rival Buffs that he would announce himself to the sporting world, catching 16 passes for 133 yards and a touchdown as Colorado State almost pulled off the upset against Deion Sanders' Colorado team.

In his first return to the state that made him a star, Horton caught two first half touchdowns to halt the Raiders losing streak, shutting out the Denver Broncos in their 24-0 win on Sunday afternoon.

Horton dropped what would have been a third touchdown in the second half as neither offense scored past halftime. Justin Fields threw for 217 yards and three touchdowns, rushing for an additional 65 yards as the offense was without lead rusher Damien Harris for much of the game as he left with an injury. Another rookie in Miyan Williams took over, rushing for 95 yards.

Broncos rookie quarterback Drake Maye had his toughest day as a pro, completing just 52 percent of his passes for 147 yards. The Broncos running game was completely shut down with leading rusher Javonte Williams rushing for just seventeen yards prior to leaving the game with an injury and replacement Jaleel McLaughlin averaged just 1.3 yards per game.

At the halfway point, the MVP trophy is a duel between Josh Allen, Patrick Mahomes
At just 28 years old, Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes is already a three-time Super Bowl champion and two time MVP. Buffalo's Josh Allen is also 28 and while he's been a star in the league since his third season, the seven-year pro has hardly any hardware to show for it.

Allen has built up a solid case through eight games for his first MVP as he has yet to throw an interception and has thrown nineteen touchdowns, second most in the league behind only Justin Fields (21) and tied with Patrick Mahomes who have thrown five and three interceptions respectively. Allen is also completing a career high 73 percent of his passes and has yet to fumble this season, adding in two rushing touchdowns.

He's not running away with the MVP however as Mahomes leads the league in passing yards by a wide margin with Bryce Young being nearly six hundred yards behind thanks to Mahomes' record breaking performance against the Raiders earlier this season when he threw for 606 yards.

Justin Fields, Las Vegas Raiders agree to four-year, $168 million extension
Despite having an interim head coach and general manager, the Las Vegas Raiders have extended quarterback Justin Fields on a four-year, $168 million contract to make Fields' officially the franchise quarterback.

The Raiders will need to find the long term answer at head coach and general manager following the midseason firing of Josh McDaniels and Dave Ziegler but they seem to have found their quarterback, guaranteeing Fields $68 million over the next four seasons. Raiders owner Mark Davis was heavily involved in pushing for a deal to be done as Fields was in the final year of his contract, according to NFL Network's Ian Rappaport.

Fields' modest cap hit of $3.23 million this year will jump to $38.5 million next year, escalating to $45.7 million in the final year of his deal.

The average-per-year value of Field's deal, $42 million, lands him in the same ball park as Dak Prescott's three year, $127 million extension earlier this season with Dallas. While Fields doesn't have the resume of Prescott, Fields' has been a gem in the Raiders offense since being traded from Chicago, leading the league in passing touchdowns, 10th in yards and 19th in passer rating.

Under newly appointed interim offensive coordinator Bo Hardegree, Fields has rushed for 241 yards in the past two games, averaging eleven yards per carry. He's currently on pace to finish the season with 4,046 passing yards, 44 passing touchdowns, 10 interceptions, 843 rushing yards and six rushing touchdowns, most of which would be career highs outside of rushing yards and rushing touchdowns due to the low output at the beginning of this season in McDaniels' offense.

Fields is the third quarterback taken in the first round of the 2021 NFL Draft to sign an extension as Zach Wilson signed a four year, $22 million deal with the Jets while Mac Jones inked a four year, $61.9 million extension with the Patriots. Fields' deal likely will set the bar for former first overall pick Trevor Lawrence's new deal with the Jacksonville Jaguars which has yet to be finalized as the Jags picked up Lawrence's fifth-year option, giving them another year to get the deal done.

Damien Harris, Kolton Miller back at practice with no injury designation
After losing two of their veterans in the game against the Denver Broncos, both running back Damien Harris and left tackle Kolton Miller were back at practice in a full capacity, signaling they'll be available for the Raiders when they take on the Chargers this week with a chance to turn their season around.

Harris is second in the league in rushing with 712 rushing yards on just 119 carries, averaging a career high six yards per carry. The only players with at least 40 carries averaging more yards per carry are teammates Justin Fields (9.2) and Laviska Shenault Jr (7.6) along with Nick Chubb (6.3).

With a full complement of their offensive line now that Miller is back healthy and Harris to tote the rock, the Raiders top ranked rushing attack could be in for a field day against a Chargers defense that recently traded away linebacker Kenneth Murray Jr. and are ranked 30th in the league against the run.

Raiders' HC Antonio Pierce hints at expanded role for rookie Tyleik Williams, Curtis Jacobs
While rookie linebacker Curtis Jacobs leads the team in tackles, he's seventh in snaps played. The third round pick also leads the team in tackles for loss, sacks, forced fumble and is second on the team in interceptions and pass deflections.

Last week, the Raiders traded for Chargers linebacker Kenneth Murray Jr. who played sixteen snaps while Jayon Brown played a season high 21 snaps, cutting into Jacobs' usual reps.

"We're still figuring out the rotation and what guys fit where with other guys," Pierce told the media on Tuesday after Jacobs played just 20 snaps against Denver, his lowest total of the season.

Jacobs highlighted Jacobs and defensive tackle Tyleik Williams, two rookies, as guys that have earned more playing time and the trust of the coaching staff to play in different situations.

"You bring them along slowly in the beginning and test them out here and there," Pierce added, "There comes a point in the season where if they're performing, you feel comfortable letting them play in situations you normally wouldn't have felt comfortable putting them in before and it's a trust that they have to earn and they have."

Since returning from an injury that caused him to miss the start of the season, Williams is the highest ranked Raiders interior defensive line according to Pro Football Focus and Jacobs is the team's highest ranked inside linebacker as well.
