NOTHING WAS THE SAME: The Return of Derek Baldwin (2023-??)
NBA|CROSSOVER
Eastern Conference finals: (1) BKN vs (6) CHA
The Eastern Conference Finals are finally here and while one team isn’t new to this level, their opponent has clawed their way here. This is the Charlotte Hornets first ever Eastern Conference Finals appearance in the history of the franchise. Unfortunately, they are going up against a historical Brooklyn Nets team. A Nets team that coasted into the playoffs with 73 wins. Team owner Michael Jordan doesn’t seem fazed by it.
“Everybody’s record goes back to zero in the playoffs,” said Jordan. “They have zero wins, we have zero wins.”
Derek Baldwin didn’t seem fazed by Michael Jordan’s comments.
“You have to have confidence. I’m sure they have a lot of it at this point, they took down two great teams to get here. May the best team win.”
The Hornets did better than most against the Nets during the regular season, picking up one win out of their three matchups this season. The Hornets have been led by the trio of Jeremy Lamb, Victor Oladipo and rookie wing player Devin Law. Law was drafted eighth overall by Charlotte out of Syracuse after leading the Orange to the Sweet Sixteen. He has really lifted Charlotte’s profile on the basketball court as he emerged as the team’s third scoring option, he averaged 14 points and 6 rebounds per game during the season and 18 points and 7.5 rebounds per game during the playoffs. He has done everything he can to put the Hornets in a position to win, including shooting over 50% from beyond the three point line.
“We have been impressed by Devin’s talent,” said head coach Kobe Bryant. “He’s young. He’s hungry. He wants it all right now.”
The Charlotte Hornets have been surprising teams since the playoffs began. First with the 7-game series win over Philadelphia, followed by the 7-game series match up of the number two seed Chicago. Now, they face the number one seed in the Eastern Conference. Do they have enough left in the tank to pull off another upset?
Brooklyn comes into this one the heavy favorite. They were knocked out of the Eastern Conference Finals two years in a row by Philadelphia, prompting the signing of future hall of famer, Derek Baldwin. Will Brooklyn finally seal the deal and advance to the NBA Finals?
Derek Baldwin on being four games away from the NBA Finals: Everybody would say they aren’t looking ahead, but you are just a little bit. It’s hard not to look ahead. It’s right there. We have to take it one game at a time though. We have to get out of Charlotte.
