Trio of Top Fives Puts Louisiana in the Running for Best Class
By Bill Connelly

Having already secured the services of 16 quality recruits, including five Rivals, com four stars and seven three stars, Louisiana's staff hit a home run just days after beating Louisiana-Monroe to finish their regular season with a perfect 12-0 record.

“Obviously we are extremely excited about the season we've had on the field.” Coach Porter Davis said. “But it's been equally as exciting in recruiting for us. We've been able to get a ton of talented players and also quality individuals. There's not one signing where we weren't 100% sold on a guy.”

Louisiana received commitments from Rivals.com's #5 runningback in the nation, the #2 cornerback and the #1 quarterback all in the span of three days following their final regular season game.

“We're not rebuilding, we're reloading.” Davis tweeted.

DELMOND BOUDREAUX
CB – Morgan City, Louisiana
4* - #2 CB

Delmond Boudreaux is a four star rated cornerback from Morgan City, Louisiana. He had hinted at signing with Oklahoma early in the season but decided to flip to Louisiana for a few reasons, most notably staying in state and the chance to be a starter as a true freshman as current starters Jevante Watson and Jamal Rainey will be moving on after this season. Sophomore corner Troy McCollum reportedly helped convince Boudreaux to sign.

“We are all in on these great in-state guys.” Coach Davis explained. “We've got great competition for them in state and we would be remiss to let them go somewhere out of state.”

Boudreaux is comfortable playing man or zone and as stated above should have a chance to be a day one starter.

JOESEPH HOLLINS III
HB – Moss Point, Mississippi
5* - #5 HB

Despite being rated as a five start recruit and the #5 runningback in the nation by Rivals.com Joeseph Hollins III wasn't feeling the love during his recruitment until Louisiana head coach Porter Davis insured him that he would be a runningback if he came to Lafayette.

“I guess I don't look like a runningback to a lot of people.” Hollins said after taking a number of schools off his list, all of which intended to turn him into a slot receiver, safety or linebacker.

“I want to play runningback, I want those touches.”

Hollins led all of Mississippi in rushing yardage and touchdowns this past season and also as a junior.

An unnamed scout for an SEC school that targeted him early on said that a number of scouts didn't feel he was truly a runningback and felt he could help a team better at a different position.

Mississippi and Mississippi State were at the top of his list during his junior season but quickly fell off when they suggested position changes.

Hollins comes into a situation where three of the top four runningbacks will be moving on. He should have an opportunity to contribute as a freshman behind Kyle Hicks.

JORDAN MCALARY
QB – Durant, Mississippi
5* - #1 QB
5'11” 195
Jordan McAlary is another player that many of the larger programs were interested in before he made it clear that he was not interested in playing another position. His height, or lack thereof, had most of the Power Five schools thinking a position change was best. Schools were also afraid of the possibility that McAlary would chose to pursue professional baseball as he was drafted by the Royals.

“We've seen his tape.” Coach Porter Davis said after the signing was announced. “We know he can play the position and play it at a high level. We're not concerned with some measurements that apparently scared some schools off. The numbers we care about 33 and 107.” He continued, referencing the number of wins and touchdowns McAlary compiled at Central Holmes Christian School in three seasons as their starting quarterback.

“It's a great culture there.” McAlary said after his signing was announced. “That's a program that's rising, it's a great coaching staff. They got some big stuff coming down the line too that's very cool, big things.”

Assuming there are no outgoing transfers between now and the start of the 2017 season McAlary should have a clear path to the starting job although current redshirt sophomore Matt Hayden will be trying to win the job after Brooks Haack and Jalen Nixon depart. Current freshman Rashad Brooks is also a factor as is incoming recruit D'Eriq Robinette, although a position change has already been discussed for Robinette.
