Tulsa isn't very good, think they'll probably be near the basement.

Purdue game should be a challenge, they've got some studs in positions that could be trouble for us.

Thanks for checking in homie.

Sixty minutes wasn't enough time for Purdue and Louisiana last night as the Cajuns came away with an overtime win in a thriller.

Most experts felt the game would be very close with Louisiana coming in as a three point favorite from most major betting sources.

The game would not disappoint.

Purdue took a 7-3 lead on a five yard rushing touchdown by Robert Gregory off an option pitch from quarterback Nate Reid with just under two minutes to play in the first quarter. Louisiana's Jeffrey Yatkowski connected on a 43 yard field goal to cap their first possession.

Yatkowski missed a 37 yard attempt early in the second quarter. A few possessions later Brooks Haack was intercepted by Purdue's senior safety Austin Logan when trying to force a pass to fullback Thomas Singleton. Purdue was not able to score off the takeaway but the Boilermakers' freshman kicker Michael Johnson did add a pair of field goals later in the quarter to put the Boilermakers up 13-3 at the break.

Purdue extended their lead on their first possession of the second half via a Reid to Danny Anthrop seven yard touchdown pass. After a turnover on downs by the Cajuns their defense got in the endzone on a pick six by cornerback Tracy Walker.

After a Purdue three and out Louisiana got a boost from a 24 yard run by Kyle Hicks that Haack followed up with a 27 yard touchdown pass to Scott Austin.

On the final play of the third quarter Haack held the ball too long and junior tackle Ra'Zahn Howard hit him and forced a fumble that was scooped up by defensive end Evan Panfil who returned it all the way to the endzone to put Purdue up 27-17 going into the fourth quarter.

"No heads hanging at that point. We knew we had a quarter to play and a great chance to fight our way back into the game." Cajuns head coach Porter Davis explained when asked what the morale was like on the sideline after Purdue's defensive score.

Haack went right back to work, connecting with Mikey Porter Sr. for a gain of 14 after scrambling for 21 to set up Yatkowski's 35 yard field goal that made it a seven point game.

Louisiana forced a Purdue punt on their ensuing possession then went back to work with 4:03 left to play. After completing a 17 yard pass to Darren Guerrero Haack was sacked for a loss of 11 then Austin missed one making it third and 21. Haack found Porter up the seam and he made a great diving catch for a gain of 35 to keep the drive alive. Jalen Nixon ran for a gain of three and then on his first touch at the college level Donatello Franz III caught a pass out of the backfield for a gain of 12 and a first down at the 17 yard line with 2:46 left.

Franz ran for three yards then Haack found Austin for a gain of six. On third and short Singleton ran up the middle for four yards and a first down. On the next play Franz scored his first touchdown on a four yard run off tackle. Yatkowski tied the game with 1:48 left to play.

Purdue was able to move the ball quickly but could not get into field goal range and regulation ended on an interception by Louisiana's Troy McCollum in the endzone.

The Cajuns elected to start overtime on defense and after a quick first down by Purdue they forced them into a 34 yard field goal attempt that Johnson pushed wide right.

Franz exploded for a gain of 13 up the middle then picked up a hair under 10 more on the next play before losing a yard and setting up a third and inches on the three yard line. Bryan Jones got in on the action when he took a delayed handoff and went into the endzone to put the game away.

"Fighters!" Porter yelled in a postgame sideline interview. "Each and everyone of our players here today is a fighter and they just kept fighting back and we got the win! Huge win!"

Brooks Haack threw for 323 yards, a touchdown and a pick in the win and Kyle Hicks, who left the game midway through the third quarter, led the team with 56 yards rushing on 13 carries. Haack's favorite target was Scott Austin who had seven receptions for 92 yards and a score.

Defensively linebacker George Williams led the way with seven tackles. Tracy Walker and Troy McCollum each recorded an interception and Curtis Bolden and Courtney Miggins each had a sack.

Coach Davis' Take
Despite using some elements of the Air Raid it is never our intention to throw the ball 42 times. That being said we had to do what was working to move the ball and Brooks played a great game. We'll hope to run the ball more and better going forward and you'll probably see us mixing in different backs more in the future.

I'm not sure what happened but the red boxes in the top corner of the pics was not intentional. Once I finished the game that popped up on screen. I was going to crop all the pictures but I didn't like how they looked when I did that. It's not my intention to do that going forward.

Good game to start off the season. A power conference win at home :obama:

Good luck against Mississippi State. Don't get whacked in Starksville.

That was the most intense game I've played in this dynasty and overall for a while.

About to do my weekly wrap up and then scouting Mississippi State, we'll see how they look on "paper".
