CHARLOTTE (AP) This was the first game of the NBA Cup for the New York Knicks and the Charlotte Hornets. Both teams came into this game with only one loss under their belts and both fought to keep it that way.

Charlotte started out rocky, missing their first four shots. Then the shots started falling. For everybody. From everywhere. New York had six players that finished in double-digit scoring, including Devin Booker with 17 points and Charlotte had five players in double-digit scoring.

The Hornets went on a 16-7 run to take a three point lead at the end of the first quarter. Noah Baldwin began to pick up steam in the second quarter for New York scoring 15 of the Knicks’ 38 second quarter points to give his team a little cushion.

It was a tough physical matchup and both teams lost players, New York’s Sam Hendricks went out with a hyperextended shoulder in the third quarter. Hendricks was able to chip in 4 points and 4 rebounds off the bench. Austin Jack was out with a bruised tailbone.

Stephen Silas on free throws: I’m just going to say they shot a lot. Like a whole lot. They made forty, so they got at least forty attempts. We made sixteen, so we got at least sixteen and we made over eighty percent of our shots. That’s a huge gap.

Noah Baldwin on Hendricks injury: You never wanna see a guy go out. I told him, it was his four points that helped fuel this win, so we need him back.
