JEVANTE WATSON GRABBED HIS SCHOOL RECORD 9TH PICK AND TURNED IT INTO A SCORE EARLY
ULL had no problems with rival ULM as they took them down by a score of 30-0 in their regular season finale.
Jevante Watson grabbed a school record ninth interception in the first quarter and took it 41 yards to the house for the only score the Cajuns would actually need.
Terrence Broadway scored on the first play of the second quarter and Sean Thomas re-tied Watson with his ninth pick a few plays later.
Fullback Thomas Singleton added a score a few minutes later on a short run. After adding a Hunter Stover field goal Lafayette led 23-0 at halftime.
Alonzo Harris would score in the fourth quarter to make it an even 30 for ULL.
While nobody on the ULL offense stood out in the win the defense had a performance for the ages.
ULM couldn't get anything going offensively, they managed just 48 yards of total offense and -10 on the ground with sacks figured in. The Warhawks had five first downs, one of which came on a penalty. They were 1-11 on third down.
ULL picked off ULM sophomore QB Bivins Caraway twice and sacked him five times, including two by Christian Ringo, one by team leader Dominique Tovell and one each by backup tackles Daniel Fritz and Jalen Fields. Caraway finished with 58 yards on 13 of 27 passing.
Sean Thomas, who was in the area when Watson made the early interception had this to say: "I was right there man, I kinda was hoping he'd bobble it so I could snag it outta there but I saw him get it and I just looked for someone to block."
Thomas and Watson came into the game tied for the team lead with eight picks each and left tied with nine each. Thomas has three pick sixes and now has Watson on his heels.
After the final gun the majority of the defensive players were seen swarming defensive coordinator Porter Davis, who stood on the team bench and made a mic drop motion.
Davis did seem to have a somewhat lengthy conversation with ULM head coach Todd Berry following the game.
ULL will now most likely play in another New Orleans bowl unless they are awarded an at large bid to a bigger game.
