Pep Talks With Autumn.

Image

While I sat there with my foot propped up on the bed, watching the NCAA basketball games, my daughter Autumn returned home from school & came into my room.

"Hi, Dad." She said as she walked in & took a seat on the bed beside me.

"Hey, Autumn. What's wrong? Had a tough day at school today?"

She sighed and admitted, "Dad, I'm finding Math to be really difficult. It seems like everyone in my class understands the assignment except me & they all laughed at me today for it."

"Who cares what those kids think.. I want you to remember something very important. Life is full of challenges, and sometimes things might seem difficult or overwhelming. But that doesn't mean you should give up or think less of yourself."

She looked up at me as her eyes were searching for reassurance.

"But what if I never figure it out!?" she whispered as her voice tinged with insecurity.

"Nobody starts off being good at everything. We all have to work hard and learn from our mistakes. The key is to believe in yourself, even when things get tough."

She nodded.

"Do you remember when you learned to ride your bike? At first, you were wobbly and unsure, but with practice and perseverance, you became an excellent rider. It's the same with anything in life. It's okay to make mistakes; that's how we learn and grow. What matters is that you keep trying, even when it feels difficult."

"Remember, Autumn," I said with a smile as I stared down at my foot in the boot. "you are capable of incredible things. Your unique talents and strengths will shine through if you believe in yourself and keep pushing forward. So, embrace challenges as opportunities for growth, and never forget that I believe in you, no matter what. You're a Jimenez!"

She showed a surge of confidence and gratitude as we shared a hug.

"Thanks, Dad."

"Also, you can't play basketball in Middle School next year if you can't keep your grades up. I'm not worried about that though because you & AJ are both extremely smart. Whenever you want to practice your math problems, you know where to find me. We'll figure it out together."
