AJ Griffin scored 18 for the Suns tonight, including knocking down 2/3 from behind the arc.

PHOENIX — The Footprint Center crowd was gifted a treat in the Suns' last home game before Christmas Day as they steamrolled the Portland Trail Blazers & now lead the season series 3-0. They also were able to witness a 50-point performance from Portland's Dee Johnson, however it played a very little impact in the outcome of tonight's match.

Recks Black & DJ Porter Sr. were out front for the Suns, combining for 52 points in the win. Tiny Jimenez also pitched in 20 points & dished out a season-high 17 assists. Westley Hunt & AJ Griffin fell just shy of the 20-point mark, but still played a major role in the final score against Portland.

"This is the best the team has looked all season.." Westley Hunt told DS.net in the post-game interview. "We knocked our shots down, we defeated our defenders, & when we didn't, we had DJ [Porter] down there to clean up the mess."

Dee Johnson's 51 point night is a new career-high for the 7'1" big man & 14-year NBA veteran, however, the league's high this season belongs to Houston Rockets' Colin Carey, who scored 61 points on Nov. 20 in a win against the Dallas Mavericks.

Up next for the Phoenix Suns: Christmas Day at Madison Square Garden. The long anticipated final game for Tiny Jimenez in the Garden will tip-off in New York at 8:00 pm. Can the Suns continue to extend their win streak, which now stands at 8 straight?

Phoenix Suns' Top Performers:

Recks Black: 26 Points, 5 Rebounds, 11/13 FG, 1/1 3PT, 3/3 FT
DJ Porter Sr.: 26 Points, 19 Rebounds, 4 Blocks, 13/18 FG
Tiny Jimenez: 20 Points, 7 Rebounds, 17 Assists, 9/19 FG, 2/3 FT
Westley Hunt: 19 Points, 5/11 FG, 2/4 3PT, 7/8 FT
AJ Griffin: 18 Points, 6/9 FG, 2/3 3PT, 4/4 FT

Portland Trail Blazers' Top Performers:

Dee Johnson: 51 Points, 7 Rebounds, 5 Assists, 3 Steals, 20/33 FG, 5/9 3PT, 6/6 FT
Jaime Jaquez Jr.: 9 Points, 3/6 FG, 3/5 3PT
James Bouknight: 8 Points, 5 Assists, 2/12 FG, 2/8 3PT, 2/2 FT
Jett Springer: 8 Points, 4/6 FG

The Night Before Christmas.

Image

As Tiny Jimenez prepares for his 10th & final NBA Christmas Day game, he spends Christmas Eve with his family in Phoenix as they open their gifts the day before.

Tomorrow night is a special night for Tiny, as the Kid from Newark, NJ.. the kid who grew up troubled... the kid who missed out on a scholarship to play football for Miami (FL)... the kid who had to fight to become who he is today.. that same kid will now play his last game at Madison Square Garden in his 17th NBA season.

Growing up in Newark, a graduate of Science Park HS, this is his final homecoming. He struggled on returning to the Phoenix Suns or heading home, to play for the New York Knicks for his final NBA season. Ultimately, Tiny decided to stick with the franchise he has been with the longest. His home away from home.

But it's time to return home. One. Final. Time.

As Tiny reflects on his life, he remembers the day his two oldest girls, Autumn & August, were born in New York when he was a member of the Knicks. He watched them grow up.

After a 1-year stint in Portland, he then moved them to Indianapolis by the time they were turning 5 years old. & then to Phoenix when they were turning 9.

As Tiny watches all of the excitement on the faces of his children, opening their gifts on Christmas Eve, he accepts that he is happy with all of his decisions throughout his NBA career. Uprooting his family again to a new city would've meant all new everything for the kids, & Tiny wanted to see his family happy more than anything.

Now, his two oldest daughters are freshman in high school, & while August doesn't share the basketball passion her father does, she's very well into martial arts, & shares the fight passion her father has. Her twin sister, Autumn, however, loves the game of basketball & is the starting guard on the varsity team for the Saint Mary's Lady Knights.

No matter what happens this season, for Tiny Jimenez, tomorrow night means everything.
