Rogers deals as Baltimore blitzes by Los Angeles

The Baltimore Orioles dealt the struggling Los Angeles Angels another blow as the Halos limp their way toward the All-Star break with pitcher Trevor Rogers pitching a gem in five scoreless innings.

Recently called up pitcher Victor Mederos was on the mound for the Angels for his second career start and it couldn't have gone worse from the first batter. Gunnar Henderson was walked then stole second, giving Pete Alonso the opportunity to hit a single and bring the O's star shortstop in.

The second inning was even worse.

Jackson Holliday lined to right for a single before Coby Mayo grounded to left for a single of his own. Taylor Ward's grounder to first would deflect off Nolan Schanuel, giving Holliday enough time to get home before Henderson doubled to center to bring in Mayo and Enrique Bradfield, Jr and make it 4-0.

Meanwhile, Rogers was in the process of sitting down eight batters on strikes, surrendering just three hits before being pulled in the fifth inning with a zero on the scoreboard for the Angels.

By the top of the seventh inning, Baltimore found themselves up 8-0 and cruising before Addison Barger hit a 392 foot solo shot to end the shutout.

The Seattle Mariners saw their pitching staff combine to throw a perfect game through seven innings as they secured the series win over the Los Angeles Angels.

With the league heading into the final two weeks before the All-Star break, the Angels seem to be going through the motions while their opponents tonight are pushing for a divisional pennant and a potential run back to the ALCS.

Los Angeles' fans knew it was going to be a long day when Yusei Kikcuhi struggled to get out of the bottom of the first inning, walking a batter and seeing Denzer Guzman fail to hand the ball off to Zach Neto to turn a double play. With two baserunners on, Julio Rodriguez smoked a fastball into the gap and Jo Adell misplayed the ball giving Rodriguez a two-RBI triple.

The Mariners added to their lead in the bottom of the third inning with an RBI double from Josh Naylor and a two-RBI single from Cole Young.

Guzman would make up for his mistake in the first inning by being the man to break up the combined perfect game, and in the top of the eighth inning, Nolan Schanuel went yard to end the shutout bid.

The Angels send Yates, two prospects to Rays for glove-first infielder

Los Angeles continued to retool their roster amid a terrible season by acquiring second baseman Ben Williamson from the Tampa Bay Rays.

To acquire Williamson, the Angels parted with former closer Kirby Yates, minor league pitcher Sam Aldegheri and outfielder Bryce Teodosio.

"Williamson gives the Angels an elite defensive pairing in the middle of the infield."

Williamson, who was traded from the Seattle Mariners to Tampa in February 2026, became available after the American League's second-best ball club traded for Willi Castro and Nicky Lopez two weeks ago. He had already been struggling for playing time beforehand, stepping up to the plate just 64 times across 19 games through the first half of the season. The rustiness is obvious in his numbers as he's hitting .172 with 3 homeruns and 6 RBIs—a significant dropoff from his .253, 21-RBI showing across 85 games with the Mariners last season.

Los Angeles wants him for his glove, though.

Williamson's fielding ability is far above anything anyone in the Halos' infield can put out bar Zach Neto. He also has the ability to play at second or third, giving Kurt Suzuki options on how to deploy him.

In return, Tampa receives another solid reliever in Yates who can allow them to keep pace with the Toronto Blue Jays as the season speeds toward its conclusion. Yates lost his job as the Angels' closer after blowing five saves in the early goings of 2026. He had been replaced by Ben Joyce.

Aldegheri is considered a better than average prospect who could find himself as an end of the rotation arm in a few years' time.

With a few days to go until the All-Star Break, the Angels are limping over the mid-way point of the 2026 season with yet another loss in a game that they had every chance to win.

Texas jumped out to an early lead in the bottom of the third inning after Corey Seager brought Josh Jung in through a sac fly. Danny Jansen would destroy Grayson Rodriguez's curve, hung over the plate, taking it 403 feet to left field for a two-run shot.

Los Angeles struggled to find their way back into the game as the Rangers used a parade of pitchers after pulling Kumar Rocker in just the fourth inning. That changed in the top of the sixth inning with just a single swing of the bat.

Alexis Diaz gave up back to back singles to Mike Trout and Denzer Guzman before Josh Lowe hit a moon shot 411 feet to left to tie the game at three a piece.

Seager found himself in position to break a deadlock again in the bottom of the eighth inning and all he would need is a single pitch as he homered to right to make it 4-3. Brandon Nimmo added two insurance runs with a two-RBI single later that inning.
